Cinch data shows used EV sales rose 29% in 2025 as prices fell and buyer confidence grew. See how demand is shifting in the UK used car market.

Sales of used electric vehicles on Cinch gained momentum in 2025, as the online retailer recorded a sharp increase in demand for EVs across its platform. According to the company, used EV sales rose by 29% year on year, driven largely by softer pricing and a broader choice for buyers.

The average price of a used electric vehicle on Cinch fell by 4% compared with 2024, making EVs more accessible to a wider audience. As a result, electric cars delivered the strongest year-on-year growth of any fuel type on the platform, even though petrol and diesel models continued to dominate overall used car sales.

The Tesla Model 3 emerged as the best-selling used electric car on Cinch in 2025, followed by the Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Kona Electric. The company said the mix of saloons, hatchbacks and SUVs among the most popular models suggests buyers are prioritising range, price and features rather than body style.

The surge in used EV demand on Cinch reflects wider developments across the UK market. Industry data shows that the second-hand BEV segment reached record volumes in 2025, gradually increasing its share of all used car transactions and underlining the growing role of the used market in mainstream EV adoption.

Across all fuel types, the Vauxhall Corsa was the best-selling used car on Cinch during 2025. It was followed by the Nissan Qashqai, Ford Fiesta, Mini Hatchback and Volkswagen Golf, highlighting sustained demand for small hatchbacks and family SUVs. At brand level, Ford remained the most popular manufacturer overall on the platform, ahead of Volkswagen and Vauxhall.

Within the electric vehicle segment, Tesla led used EV sales, followed by Volkswagen, Hyundai, Vauxhall and Kia. Cinch also noted that newer brands, including BYD, are beginning to feature among the fastest-selling electric models, pointing to a gradual broadening of consumer choice.

Search data offered further insight into shifting buyer behaviour. Interest in the Land Rover Defender increased by 28% in January 2026 compared with the 2025 daily average, following the latest series of the BBC programme The Traitors, illustrating how popular culture can influence car demand.

Cinch said the figures indicate a market in transition. With prices becoming more attainable and confidence in used electric vehicles continuing to grow, the company believes EVs are moving beyond niche status. As more models are expected to arrive in 2026, Cinch anticipates that the momentum seen in the used EV market is likely to continue.
