Hyundai’s Santa Fe Hybrid has earned a major industry nod ahead of the 2026 model year, being named Best Hybrid of 2026 by The Drive. The publication highlighted the SUV’s ability to stand out in one of the most competitive family vehicle segments, pointing to its blend of practicality, efficiency, and design.
According to The Drive deputy editor Jerry Perez, the Santa Fe Hybrid impressed the outlet’s staff throughout its evaluation process, securing an outstanding 9 out of 10 score. The vehicle was praised for its efficient hybrid performance, generous convenience features, and overall thoughtful execution as a modern family SUV.
The 2026 Santa Fe Hybrid is powered by Hyundai’s Smartstream hybrid setup built around a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Hyundai lists an estimated 231 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque, along with fuel economy figures of up to 36 mpg combined. Buyers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, adding flexibility for both daily commuting and longer trips.
Hyundai also puts a strong emphasis on interior space and usability. Developed under the brand’s “Open for More” concept, the fifth-generation Santa Fe features a longer wheelbase, a more upscale cabin, and standard three-row seating. A wide-opening liftgate further reinforces the SUV’s family-oriented appeal, making loading bulky items easier and expanding its everyday practicality.
Depending on trim level, available highlights include a Relaxation Comfort driver’s seat with a deployable leg rest, a UV-C sterilization compartment, dual wireless charging pads, and a panoramic curved infotainment display.
The award arrives as Hyundai reports strong momentum for the hybrid version in the U.S. market. The company says Santa Fe Hybrid sales rose 86% year over year in 2025, reinforcing the growing demand for SUVs that deliver both efficiency and real-world capability.
Safety credentials may also strengthen the model’s position. According to IIHS listings, the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is included among vehicles awarded the Top Safety Pick+ designation.
Combined, The Drive’s recognition and Hyundai’s sales performance suggest the Santa Fe Hybrid is not only keeping pace with rivals but steadily shaping itself into one of the most prominent family-focused hybrid SUVs heading into 2026.
