Porsche presented the Cayenne Electric at FAT Ice Race 2026 in Zell am See, featuring demo laps and taxi rides. Learn key details and event highlights.

Porsche used the FAT Ice Race 2026 in Zell am See, Austria, as a stage where motorsport tradition meets modern technology and a new wave of car culture. Set against snow-covered mountains and perfectly prepared ice, the event once again became a gathering point for racing enthusiasts, design-minded visitors and automotive communities. For Porsche, however, the spotlight was clearly on one moment: the ice debut of the new Cayenne Electric.

The all-electric SUV appeared on the frozen track for the first time in front of the public, delivering demonstration laps and passenger taxi rides. Michael Schätzle, Vice President Product Line Cayenne, described the model as a major step forward, saying the Cayenne Electric “delivers performance in a completely new dimension.” He pointed to the new drivetrain as the key factor, with the Cayenne Turbo Electric offering up to 850 kW (1,156 PS) and 1,500 Nm of torque. On ice, those figures translate into more than raw output, as Porsche highlighted the instant responsiveness of the electric motors, an off-road driving mode and a finely tuned accelerator pedal designed to provide precise control over power delivery.

After the rides, Schätzle said he had received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback. According to him, the Cayenne Electric sits beautifully on its rear axle, features attractive proportions and conveys a strong sense of sportiness. The demonstration drift laps were accompanied by former factory drivers and Porsche brand ambassadors Timo Bernhard and Jörg Bergmeister, who were piloting a revived 964 buggy. Porsche noted that this vehicle had served for many years as a demonstration car for the Porsche Sport Driving School. The combination of old and new machinery on the same surface reinforced the message Porsche wanted to underline throughout the event: two generations of technology, combustion and electric, sharing the same stage.

Yet FAT Ice Race 2026 was not defined by cars alone. Porsche emphasized that the event has grown far beyond traditional motorsport. It has become a cultural platform shaped by rare vehicles, design installations, music and culinary experiences, all driven by the energy of a modern community. Organiser Ferdi Porsche summed up the philosophy with a simple motto: fun over speed. He said around 8,500 visitors attended the event, drawn not only by competition but by the atmosphere and the stories that keep historic motorsport relevant for younger generations.

In the same spirit, Porsche introduced a new initiative called Porsche Youngsters, launched by its global community management team. Through an experiential week of workshops and community formats, the company laid the groundwork for a programme aimed at creating new pathways into the Porsche Club world for younger enthusiasts. For participants, visiting the FAT Ice Race was positioned as a key highlight and a glimpse into how future club communities could develop.

The Cayenne Electric’s appearance on the ice therefore worked as more than a spectacle. It was a strategic statement. Porsche is presenting electrification not as a break with its identity, but as an extension of it, aiming to keep performance, driving emotion and community culture closely connected. FAT Ice Race 2026 offered a clear example of how the brand intends to balance heritage and future technology, proving that both can share the same track, even on ice.
