Alfa Romeo Celebrates 75-Year Partnership with Carabinieri
Read how Alfa Romeo launched its 75-year Carabinieri partnership celebration, highlighting the Giulia Quadrifoglio and its role in official medical missions.
Alfa Romeo has officially opened celebrations marking 75 years of cooperation with Italy’s Carabinieri, choosing a dynamic setting rather than a formal ceremony: the “Arma 1814 Ski Challenge”, which concluded on February 1 in Selva di Val Gardena.
The decision feels symbolic. Instead of relying on ceremonial statements, the brand is highlighting a partnership built on operational reality — one that has evolved alongside Italian society and automotive technology for more than seven decades.
The relationship dates back to 1951, when the Carabinieri received their first Alfa Romeo vehicle, the 1900 M “Matta”. In the 1960s, the Giulia played a key role, serving between 1963 and 1968 and helping shape the image of the “Gazzella” mobile patrol unit, long associated with rapid emergency response. Over the decades, Alfa Romeo models continued to enter the Carabinieri fleet, including the Alfetta, 90, 75, 155, 156, 159, Giulietta, Giulia and Tonale.
One of the central highlights of the anniversary launch was the presence of a Giulia Quadrifoglio in institutional Carabinieri livery, recently delivered to the force and displayed during the event. Alfa Romeo has confirmed that the high-performance sedan is equipped with special systems intended to support medical missions, including the rapid and safe transportation of organs and blood.
The Giulia Quadrifoglio remains the flagship of Alfa Romeo’s performance range. It is powered by a 520-hp 2.9-litre V6 and features carbon fibre details, along with a carbon-ceramic braking system. In the context of public service, these specifications underline not just brand prestige, but the importance of speed and reliability when urgent missions demand immediate response.
The “Arma 1814 Ski Challenge” itself is designed as both a competition and a public event. In 2026, it runs from January 23 to February 1 in the Val Gardena area and includes disciplines such as cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering and giant slalom. The event also serves as a showcase of the Carabinieri’s alpine skills and operational readiness in demanding mountain conditions.
The timing adds further significance, as the event takes place in the broader build-up to the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Carabinieri are expected to play a major role in the security framework, and a cooperation agreement has already been signed between the force and Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, aimed at ensuring safety for athletes and spectators.
Statements from both sides reflect how the partnership is being framed beyond mere tradition. Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili described the anniversary as proof of shared values — dedication, courage and Italian excellence — while Carabinieri General Commander Salvatore Luongo stressed that Alfa Romeo vehicles strengthen operational capability by delivering reliable, high-performance and technologically advanced support for everyday service.
The anniversary year now appears set to become more than a retrospective. For Alfa Romeo, it reinforces a narrative that blends performance engineering with institutional responsibility. For the Carabinieri, it is a visible signal that their fleet continues to evolve, addressing modern operational needs — including the growing importance of medical logistics and rapid-response mobility.
