Genesis is preparing a new EV platform for 2027, aiming for premium driving dynamics, hybrids and EREVs, according to Genesis Europe chief Peter Kronschnabl.

Genesis is preparing to take a major step in its electrification strategy with the launch of a dedicated platform for future electric and hybrid models, with the first vehicles expected to arrive in 2027. The move highlights the brand’s ambition to stand apart from Hyundai and Kia not only through design and technology, but also through the driving character that premium customers increasingly demand.

Today, Genesis EVs such as the GV60 are built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP architecture, the same platform that underpins Hyundai’s IONIQ lineup and Kia’s EV range. Other Genesis models largely rely on the Hyundai M3 platform. While this approach has enabled Genesis to expand quickly, it has also left room for criticism: in the luxury segment, buyers expect a brand identity that goes beyond interior materials and features, and extends into the way a car feels on the road.

According to Genesis Motor Europe chief Peter Kronschnabl, the push for a distinct driving experience is one of the key reasons behind the development of a bespoke platform. He explained that Genesis wants to deliver premium dynamics that better match the expectations of high-end customers, pointing to goals such as more direct steering and a chassis setup that is not overly soft. The brand believes that only a dedicated architecture will allow it to fully meet its own standards for refinement, comfort, and handling balance.

At the same time, Genesis does not appear to be cutting itself off entirely from Hyundai Motor Group’s technical foundation. Kronschnabl indicated that some overlap with Hyundai and Kia solutions is likely to remain, as the Group’s vertical integration provides strong competitive advantages. In that sense, the new platform could become a strategic middle ground: offering a more distinct Genesis identity while still benefiting from shared engineering strength.

Genesis is also reshaping its electrification roadmap. The company had previously aimed to become an all-electric brand by 2030, but its plans are now shifting toward a more flexible approach. The brand is expected to introduce its first hybrids in 2026, followed by extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), which use an internal combustion engine primarily as a generator to increase driving range.

Further attention is being drawn by Genesis’ performance-focused Magma program. In Europe, it has already been confirmed that the first production Magma model will be the GV60 Magma, with manufacturing scheduled for the third quarter of 2025. This signals a clear intention to compete not only through luxury design and technology, but also through performance-driven appeal.

The new 2027 platform remains unnamed, and Genesis has not yet officially confirmed which models will be built on it. However, the brand has recently showcased concepts that could point to its future direction, including the full-size Neolun SUV and the off-road-focused X Gran Equator. If Genesis delivers on its timeline, the platform could become a key tool in strengthening its position in the premium segment, especially as the brand targets rapid growth in Europe and continues expanding its lineup.
