Porsche targets Miami win to extend Florida success streak

After wins at Daytona and Sebring, Porsche eyes a Formula E victory at the Miami E-Prix on April 12. Discover team strategy, driver focus, and track insights.
After nearly two months away from the track, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team is ready to race again—this time in Miami. On April 12, Formula E will return to Florida for the first time in ten years, and unlike its debut season appearance in 2014/15, this race will take place at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The 3.551 km layout, featuring 15 turns and an anti-clockwise configuration, presents a fresh challenge. The Porsche team highlights Turn 1 and track limits as key points that could determine the race’s outcome.
Porsche enters the fifth round of the season with strong pace but a string of unlucky results. António Félix da Costa sits third in the drivers’ standings with 39 points, while reigning World Champion Pascal Wehrlein is in eighth with 25 points. The team itself ranks third in the championship on 64 points, chasing Nissan (130 points) and NEOM McLaren (67 points).
This Miami E-Prix is more than just another race for Porsche. It’s a chance to continue a dominant start to the year on American soil. Porsche Penske Motorsport claimed overall wins at both the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, earning the unofficial "Florida 36" title. Now, the Formula E squad aims to follow that success with a victory in Miami.
Momentum also comes from the March Evo Sessions held at Miami International Autodrome, where former football star Sergio Agüero took the wheel of the Porsche 99X Electric GEN3 Evo. This latest evolution boasts up to 476 hp, all-wheel drive in Attack Mode, and a blistering 0–100 km/h time of just two seconds.
Adding complexity to the race is the weather: forecasts predict temperatures around 26°C with a 25% chance of rain—factors that could impact race strategy. For now, both Wehrlein and da Costa are focused on turning pace into points after being denied strong results due to collisions and setbacks in earlier rounds.
Both drivers are also set for another major challenge in June: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Wehrlein will make his debut in the Porsche 963 alongside Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy, while da Costa returns in a privateer LMP2 car.
With pressure mounting and rivals like Nissan in top form, the Miami weekend stands as a crucial moment in Porsche’s pursuit of Formula E dominance. Expect a hard-fought, unpredictable battle on Florida’s tarmac.
