MBUX 2.6 Update Brings Google Maps, AI Voice, and Offroad Explorer

Discover Mercedes-Benz MBUX 2.6: now with Google Satellite View, ChatGPT voice assistant, and Offroad Track—available via OTA update for 2M+ vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a major update to its MBUX infotainment system. Version 2.6, delivered over-the-air (OTA), reaches more than two million vehicles worldwide, bringing enhanced navigation, voice control, and entertainment capabilities. The upgrade reflects the brand’s commitment to keeping the digital in-car experience fresh and innovative even after purchase.
A headline feature is the integration of Google Satellite View, which offers high-resolution, bird’s-eye navigation. Especially useful in rural areas with fewer landmarks, the feature updates automatically for users who already have the “Satellite View” digital extra enabled—simply activate the satellite imagery service.
Electric vehicle drivers with second-generation MBUX systems can now benefit from Live Alternative Routes, part of the Navigation with Electric Intelligence suite. This feature plots routes that factor in charging stops, traffic density, and estimated charging times, letting drivers choose the most efficient journey.
The MBUX Voice Assistant has also received a significant boost. Now integrated with ChatGPT, it’s available even on first-generation MBUX vehicles starting with version E.800. Backed by Microsoft Bing and OpenAI, the assistant can handle real-time factual queries and sustain full conversations, including contextual follow-ups. This enhancement has driven a sixfold increase in usage of voice control.
For off-road enthusiasts, Mercedes-Benz introduces the Offroad Track feature via its Stories app. Drivers can document rugged terrain adventures by recording video and key telemetry data such as tilt angle, speed, and GPS coordinates. These journeys can be shared with other users, helping grow a community of 4x4 fans. The app is set to receive additional updates that will further expand its functionality.
Driver feedback has already begun surfacing. On MBWorld.org, users discuss version 2.6.1 of MBUX, noting that while the update is generally well-received, features like SoundDrive may not appear immediately after installation, raising questions about feature availability.
Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz appears poised to deepen its commitment to AI. With the debut of the new CLA, the company announced the next step: integrating Google’s Automotive AI Agent. Designed to offer natural, predictive, and empathetic interaction, this system could represent a new frontier in personalized driver-vehicle relationships.
