Maserati GranCabrio Folgore — luxury redefined in electric form

Explore the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore: design, performance, interior, real range and why it stands alone in the luxury EV segment.
Once a synonym for roaring engines and passionate drives, Maserati is now shifting gears — quietly. The new GranCabrio Folgore, the brand’s first fully electric convertible, arrives like a flash of lightning. Fittingly, that’s exactly what “Folgore” means in Italian.
Visually, it’s unmistakably Maserati — a long, elegant bonnet, sculpted lines, and the iconic Trident grille. Even the rare three-spoke wheels echo the brand’s heritage. But behind the familiar face lies a transformative soul that redefines what a Maserati can be.
Electrified Brilliance

Under the skin lie three electric motors — one front, two rear — delivering a combined potential of 1,020 horsepower, though capped at 761 hp to preserve battery integrity. Still, the numbers speak volumes: 0 to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds, quicker than the gas-powered MC20. Top speed? 180 mph, more than enough with the roof down.
A staggering 1,350 Nm of torque delivers what feels like teleportation. Thanks to torque vectoring, the car dives into corners with surgical precision, adjusting power to the wheel that needs it most. It’s not just fast — it’s smart fast.
The Sound of Silence

The most controversial element? The sound. Or lack thereof. Instead of a throaty growl, you get a low electronic hum. Even the V6-powered version doesn’t bring back the old Maserati magic. It’s a new kind of soundtrack — one some might need time to appreciate.
Design Details

Inside, it’s a showcase of craftsmanship. Premium leather, carbon fiber accents, intuitive dual screens. Maserati even nailed the digital climate controls, using smart touch sliders. The classic dash-top clock is now a customizable display — compass, G-meter, or even brake pedal gauge.
Yet, not all is perfect. The Sonus Faber audio system lacks bass, especially for hip-hop fans. And the neck-warming air vents? A nice idea, poorly executed — they barely register.
The Range Question

Range anxiety? Perhaps. Officially rated at 280 miles (WLTP), real-world motorway use significantly reduces that. A 150-mile journey required a top-up. Still, the 270 kW fast charging (10–80% in 20 mins) offers decent practicality.
Standing Alone — For Now

The GranCabrio Folgore has virtually no rivals. Bentley hasn’t gone electric yet, Rolls-Royce’s Spectre is in another price league, and Porsche’s Taycan follows a different path. Maserati is leading the charge — stylishly so.
This isn’t the Maserati of old. But Folgore isn’t trying to be. It delivers silence, precision, comfort, and an entirely new kind of driving thrill. In that quiet elegance might just lie the brand’s future.
