Mercedes celebrates the G-Class legacy with a 460-unit retro edition, blending 1980s style with modern tech. Discover the STRONGER THAN THE 1980s model now.

Mercedes-Benz takes a bold step into the past with the launch of the G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s — a strictly limited series of just 460 units paying tribute to the iconic W 460 model that defined the 1980s off-road scene. This collector’s edition follows the overwhelming response to the 500,000th G-Class unit, released in 2023, which reignited global appreciation for the original design.

The new edition blends heritage and modernity in a meticulously crafted package. Customers can choose from three MANUFAKTUR retro colors — agave green, cream, and Colorado beige — paired with faithful design elements such as orange turn signals, night black magno exterior components, classic 5-spoke alloy wheels, and vintage-style emblems. The PROFESSIONAL Line package adds rugged touches like headlamp grilles, all-terrain tires, and an optional roof rack.

Inside, the nostalgia continues: dove grey fabric seat inserts, a passenger grab handle inscribed with “STRONGER THAN THE 1980s,” and the premium Burmester® 3D surround sound system. A nod to the legendary Schöckl testing trail near Graz — where G-Class models have proven their endurance since 1979 — is present in the engraved mountain topography on the door sills and the iconic “Schöckl Proved” badge.

Available as a G 450 d or G 500, the Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s retains the core technical specs of its base versions. Yet its true value lies in design authenticity and cultural resonance. The model is now available to order in Germany, starting at €160,055.

This is not the first time Mercedes-Benz has celebrated the legacy of the G-Class with special editions. Past highlights include the G 500 Classic, the extreme G 63 AMG 6x6, and the Stronger Than Time Edition. Each of them marked a significant milestone, reinforcing the G-Class’s standing as a timeless automotive icon.
