The Opel Grandland continues to strengthen its international reputation, increasingly looking like one of Opel’s most consistent image-building projects. The brand’s flagship SUV, built at the Eisenach plant in Germany, has now placed in the top 15 of Autocosmos’ prestigious “Recommended Cars of the Year” awards in Chile.

The result stands out even more considering the scale of the competition. In the latest selection, the Grandland faced off against 153 vehicles across all segments, representing manufacturers from China, Europe, North America, South America and India. Making the final top 15 in such a broad field highlights the model’s growing appeal beyond its home market.

The Autocosmos jury described the Grandland as a “sensible, practical proposal” aimed at buyers who value understated design and a cabin that avoids being overly dominated by screens. Reviewers specifically pointed to the new platform’s structural rigidity and its ability to deliver a smooth, comfortable ride, giving the SUV a planted and confident feel on the road.

Another key factor in the jury’s verdict was the Grandland’s 48-volt technology, praised for combining agility with high efficiency and contributing to a refined driving experience. The spacious interior and functional layout were also highlighted, with the panel noting that German build quality remains a particularly valued attribute in Chile. Practicality was reinforced by the use of physical controls, reducing reliance on the touchscreen, while safety was described as a core Opel pillar supported by a comprehensive set of standard driver-assistance systems that are well calibrated and unobtrusive.

Opel is positioning the Grandland for the future with a wide drivetrain line-up produced in Eisenach, including Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, and fully electric versions such as the Grandland Electric Long Range and the Grandland Electric AWD, Opel’s first fully electric all-wheel-drive model.

The equipment strategy reflects a clear focus on combining technology with everyday usability. Even the entry-level Edition trim comes with Intelli-Seats featuring an ergonomic recess, a multimedia infotainment system with a 10-inch colour touchscreen, and Intelli-LED headlights. Higher trim levels can add features such as the award-winning glare-free Intelli-Lux HD light with more than 50,000 elements, the Intelli-HUD head-up display, the 360-degree Intelli-Vision camera, and AGR-certified Intelli-Seats. A multimedia navigation system with a 16-inch touchscreen supports connectivity, while practical touches such as the transparent Pixel Box allow wireless smartphone charging.

This recognition in Chile adds another chapter to a growing award run. The Grandland already secured the “Golden Steering Wheel” in Germany in 2024 in the category of “Best car under €50,000,” and its latest performance suggests that its blend of comfort, engineering and practicality is resonating well outside Europe.

For Opel, the momentum points to a clear ambition: establishing the Grandland as a global model that appeals not through excessive gimmicks, but through balanced design choices, modern technology and a driving experience focused on comfort and usability. If this trend continues, the Grandland could become one of Opel’s key reference models as buyers increasingly favour vehicles that deliver clear everyday value.
