Opel presents the Zafira 2.2-litre diesel compliant with Euro 6e, detailing 180 hp, 400 Nm and WLTP figures. Read the full specifications and context.

Opel is expanding the Zafira range by reintroducing a diesel option alongside its fully electric variant. The large family MPV is now available not only as the zero-emission Zafira Electric, but also with a newly developed 2.2-litre turbo diesel delivering 132 kW (180 hp) and 400 Nm of torque.

The new engine complies with the Euro 6e standard and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 10.6 seconds, while top speed reaches 185 km/h. According to WLTP figures, combined fuel consumption stands at 7.1 l/100 km, with CO₂ emissions of 186 g/km. Opel states that fuel consumption and emissions have been reduced by up to 13 percent compared with previous diesel generations, thanks to next-generation direct injection and an optimized exhaust gas recirculation system.

The Zafira has evolved significantly in recent years. Since 2019, it has been positioned as a large passenger van based on the PSA architecture, closely related to models such as the Peugeot Traveller and Citroën SpaceTourer. Following the formation of Stellantis, it remained in the portfolio as a versatile nine-seater suited to both family and business use. The introduction of the more powerful diesel strengthens its role in the large MPV segment, where torque and long-distance efficiency remain key considerations.

Customers can choose between the 4.98-metre version and the extended Zafira XL measuring 5.33 metres. Seating for up to nine passengers is available, with an optional lounge-style layout featuring four independent seats arranged face to face. In XL configuration, cargo capacity reaches up to 4,900 litres. With a height of around 1.90 metres, the vehicle remains suitable for most underground car parks, an important detail for urban operation.

The alternative is the fully electric Zafira Electric, with WLTP energy consumption rated at 24.7–25.1 kWh/100 km and zero local CO₂ emissions (class A). In effect, Opel offers two distinct approaches within the same model line: diesel power aimed at long-distance capability and sustained torque, or battery-electric drive focused on locally emission-free mobility.

In Germany, the Zafira 2.2 Diesel starts at €41,990 including VAT. The same 2.2-litre engine also expands the Opel Vivaro lineup: the Vivaro Combi is offered with the 132 kW (180 hp) version, while commercial Vivaro variants can additionally be specified with 110 kW (150 hp) and either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

Against the backdrop of European light commercial vehicle registrations, where diesel continues to hold a dominant share, retaining and developing diesel options appears a pragmatic move. At the same time, compliance with Euro 6e ensures the model meets current regulatory requirements as emission standards continue to tighten.
