Audi is preparing for a major showcase at Auto Shanghai 2025, running from April 23 to May 2. At a joint booth with its Chinese partners FAW and SAIC, the company will unveil 19 models, including five world premieres. Leading the lineup is the first production car from AUDI — a new, China-exclusive sister brand marked by all capital letters — with the fully electric AUDI E5 Sportback.

Created specifically for the Chinese market yet infused with Audi’s global design and technological heritage, the AUDI E5 Sportback follows the motto “the best of both worlds.” The “E” represents electric propulsion, “5” denotes its place in the mid-size segment, and “Sportback” reflects Audi’s distinctive coupé-inspired design. Market launch in China is expected by late summer 2025.

Also debuting is the Audi A6L e-tron — an electric sedan built on the PPE platform and produced at the Audi FAW NEV Company’s new factory in Changchun. This state-of-the-art plant, completed in December 2024, represents a $4.5 billion investment and has an annual production capacity exceeding 150,000 EVs. It marks a pivotal step in Audi’s localization strategy for China.

Additional launches include the Audi A5L, the A5L Sportback, and an updated Q5L — all designed with Chinese consumer preferences in mind as part of Audi’s broader initiative to tailor its portfolio for the world’s largest automotive market.

At the joint booth, Audi and AUDI will present an immersive and personalized brand experience, highlighting advancements in electrification, performance, driver assistance systems, aerodynamics, and the brand’s signature lighting technology. The legendary quattro system will also be part of the experience, emphasizing Audi’s continued commitment to driving dynamics in the electric era.

A next-generation intelligent cockpit, developed specifically for China, will also be revealed. Thanks to a new electronics architecture, Audi now offers a fully customized digital user experience with a redesigned interface and enhanced connectivity tailored to local needs.

Technical specifications and pricing for the AUDI E5 Sportback remain under wraps. While the previous concept version was said to offer over 700 km of range and dual motors producing 775 horsepower, it is still unclear how closely the production model will align with those figures.

With a bold presence in Shanghai and an unwavering focus on China’s evolving EV landscape, Audi is signaling its readiness to compete with both global and domestic players — delivering cutting-edge electric mobility with a distinctly local edge.
