Genesis unveils the GMR-001 LMDh hypercar with V8 hybrid power, set for the 2026 FIA WEC debut. Discover its design, specs, and team drivers.

Genesis Magma Racing has unveiled its full-scale GMR-001 hypercar, signaling a bold entrance into the world of endurance racing. The debut took place ahead of the New York International Auto Show, where the brand also showcased its new team identity—featuring a striking livery and race suits inspired by Korean cultural motifs.

The GMR-001 is a rolling embodiment of Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy. Its dynamic silhouette blends aerodynamic aggression with sculptural purity. The hypercar features the brand’s signature Two-Line lighting and a vibrant gradient from Magma orange to deep red, with the Korean Hangul script “마그마” subtly integrated into the bodywork—a clear visual statement of brand identity.

Underneath the body lies a hybrid V8 Twin Turbo powertrain developed in close partnership with ORECA Motorsport, drawing on Hyundai’s WRC-winning technology. The car is built to compete in the LMDh category, with Genesis aiming for entries in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2026 and the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2027.

The team has already made waves in the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS), fielding an LMP2 car supported by IDEC Sport. The driver lineup includes Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert, both part of the Genesis Trajectory Program, and Daniel Juncadella, who completes the trio. The team claimed class victory in their debut race in Barcelona, marking an auspicious start to their motorsport journey.

Genesis has also secured top-tier talent for its WEC campaign. Three-time Le Mans winner André Lotterer and four-time Sebring 12 Hours champion Pipo Derani have joined the project. Lotterer expressed his excitement about competing for Genesis, emphasizing the pride and design excellence reflected in the team’s race suits, and described the opportunity as a real honor.

Motorsport for Genesis is more than a test of speed; it’s a proving ground for the future of the Magma sub-brand. Technologies refined on track—thermal management, hybrid efficiency, and durability—are expected to make their way into premium road cars.

In a hyper-competitive field that includes Porsche, Toyota, Ferrari, Cadillac, and BMW, the GMR-001 will rely on a unique combination of cultural authenticity, engineering confidence, and bold design. Its debut hints at a new kind of challenger—one born from Korea’s creative and technological ambition.
