Mercedes-Benz Vision V redefines premium travel with electric VLS concept

Mercedes-Benz unveils Vision V at Auto Shanghai 2025, previewing the electric VLS luxury van built on the VAN.EA platform. Discover the future of high-end travel.
Mercedes-Benz is making a bold move in the premium minivan segment with the unveiling of the Vision V concept — a model that hints at the company’s plans to create an all-new Grand Limousines lineup. The world premiere took place at Auto Shanghai 2025, where the manufacturer officially announced the Mercedes-Benz VLS, an all-electric luxury limousine based on the new modular Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA).
Vision V is designed to merge maximum comfort with a fully immersive digital experience. Departing from the traditional V-Class and Vito, the concept introduces a lounge-like interior with a dimmable glass partition, automatic portal-style doors, and a futuristic lighting system. With a projected range of up to 700 km (WLTP) and support for Level 3 autonomous driving, Vision V redefines what luxury mobility can offer.
Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that the VLS will carve out a new category within its brand — positioned between family-oriented vans and high-end VIP shuttles. Production is set to begin in 2026 at the Vitoria-Gasteiz plant in Spain.
Analysts note that the VLS marks more than a technical evolution; it signals Mercedes-Benz's ambition to lead a market traditionally dominated by models like the Toyota Alphard and Lexus LM. By focusing on premium design, digital innovation, and a fully electric platform, Mercedes-Benz aims to set new standards in high-end passenger transport. The switch to VAN.EA also aligns with the company's long-term strategy to phase out combustion engines in its van portfolio.
The Vision V was not only a highlight of the Shanghai auto show but also a symbol of a paradigm shift: from utility to immersive luxury. With this concept, Mercedes-Benz is charting a course toward the future of spacious, sustainable, and intelligent mobility.
