Nissan Introduces the New GRAVITE 7-Seater MPV in India
Nissan has announced the new GRAVITE 7-seater MPV for India, locally built in Chennai. Explore key features, pricing and launch details.
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has launched the all-new GRAVITE in India, introducing a new seven-seat multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) as part of the company’s renewed push in one of its most strategically important markets. The model will be locally manufactured in Chennai and arrives with an introductory price of INR 5.65 lakhs.
According to Nissan, the GRAVITE has been developed specifically with Indian customers in mind. The name itself is described as being inspired by the country’s 1.4 billion people and their diverse backgrounds, with the vehicle positioned as a practical family solution for both everyday commuting and weekend travel.
Visually, the GRAVITE follows Nissan’s global design language, combining elevated proportions with muscular body lines, pronounced wheel arches and high ground clearance aimed at handling a wide variety of Indian road conditions. Exterior highlights include signature C-shaped styling elements, a piano black grille, LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, LED taillamps, roof rails and wide-opening doors designed to improve daily usability.
Inside, the GRAVITE is built around flexibility. Seating is configured for up to seven occupants, while the removable third-row seats allow the luggage capacity to expand to 625 litres. Nissan also points to cabin roominess, generous storage areas and an air-conditioning system tailored for tropical climates as key elements of its family-focused approach.
Technology features include a floating 20.3 cm infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless charging, a 17.7 cm full digital multi-functional instrument cluster, auto-locking doors and front and rear parking sensors.
Safety is positioned as a major selling point, with Nissan stating that the GRAVITE comes equipped with more than 30 standard safety features. These include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Brake Assist System (BAS), and ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).
Power comes from a 1.0-litre petrol engine (999 cc) producing 72 PS at 6,250 rpm and 96 Nm of torque at 3,400–3,600 rpm. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed EZ-shift automated manual transmission (AMT). Technical specifications list fuel efficiency figures ranging from 19.06 to 19.3 kmpl, depending on the variant.
For a limited time, Nissan is also offering a Launch Edition of the GRAVITE, featuring unique styling elements, premium audio and additional interior upgrades.
The GRAVITE launch builds on the momentum of the Nissan Magnite, which has already begun export operations from India. Nissan previously stated that shipments of the Magnite started with South Africa, with more than 2,700 units exported through the Chennai port within a single month. This underlines India’s growing role not only as a domestic market but also as an important manufacturing and export base within Nissan’s broader strategy.
With its aggressive entry price, the GRAVITE is positioned to compete directly in India’s value-driven seven-seater segment, where models such as the Renault Triber have set the benchmark for affordability. Nissan appears to be aiming for a stronger foothold by combining competitive pricing with practical packaging, while also signalling that this is only the beginning of a larger product expansion. The company has already confirmed that the Tekton C-SUV is scheduled for launch in mid-2026, followed by another seven-seat C-SUV planned for early 2027.
