Honda reports the 2026 Civic Hybrid has won the Edmunds Top Rated Car Award, praised for safety, driving dynamics and strong fuel economy.

The Honda Civic Hybrid has received one of the most high-profile independent recognitions in the U.S. market, earning the Edmunds Top Rated Car Award for 2026. According to Honda, this marks the fourth time the 11th-generation Civic has been honored with an Edmunds Top Rated award.

Edmunds credited the Civic Hybrid’s win to a rare balance of qualities in the compact-car segment. The Edmunds Test Team highlighted its sporty design, class-leading safety performance, strong driving dynamics, and an overall personality that makes it genuinely enjoyable behind the wheel.

Edmunds Editor-in-Chief Alistair Weaver described the Civic Hybrid as a repeat winner that delivers impressive overall value, noting that it remains frugal, refined, comfortable, and capable whether buyers choose the sedan or the hatchback.

A major part of that appeal comes from Honda’s hybrid technology. The Civic Hybrid is powered by the fourth-generation Honda two-motor hybrid-electric system, which the company says is designed to maximize fuel efficiency without sacrificing dynamic performance or interior space. Official U.S. figures for the Civic Sedan Hybrid list fuel economy at 50 mpg city, 47 mpg highway, and 49 mpg combined.

The Edmunds Top Rated Awards are based on extensive vehicle testing and scoring carried out by the Edmunds Test Team, making the recognition particularly notable in a market where compact hybrids are becoming increasingly competitive.

Honda also points to the Civic’s long-standing position in the U.S., stating that it has been America’s best-selling compact car since 1973. With demand for efficiency continuing to grow, the latest award suggests the Civic Hybrid is well-positioned to remain one of the key benchmarks in the mainstream hybrid segment.
