1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 in Amethyst Returns to BaT
A rare 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 in Amethyst Metallic returns to Bring a Trailer with documented history, prior sales, TMU mileage note, and factory details.
Bring a Trailer is once again spotlighting the same car — a 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 finished in Amethyst Metallic. And while the color immediately draws attention, the story goes far deeper. This is the late-production Turbo 3.6 variant of the 964 generation, offered only for the 1993 and 1994 model years. Total production is widely cited at 1,437 units, with 754 examples reportedly built for the 1994 model year alone — and this car is one of them.
This particular example was special-ordered in Amethyst Metallic over Classic Gray partial leather. Previous auction documentation referenced option codes L999 (special-order metallic paint) and TT (Classic Grey partial leather), confirming that this was not a standard configuration but a factory special order. Production completion is recorded as September 22, 1993, a detail noted in earlier sales.
Power comes from the M64/50 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six, factory rated at 355 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. The Turbo 3.6 distinguished itself from the earlier 3.3-liter Turbo not only through increased displacement, but also through mechanical refinements that positioned it as a distinct and highly regarded evolution within the 964 lineup.
Visually, the car retains hallmark Turbo elements: widened bodywork, a fixed rear spoiler, and the correct 18-inch Speedline wheels — included with the sale. Currently fitted are 18-inch HRE 527 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires, while the original Speedline set (8Jx18 ET52 front and 10Jx18 ET61 rear) accompanies the vehicle. For collectors, the presence of original components often plays a meaningful role in long-term desirability.
The interior features cruise control, air conditioning, power windows, a power sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, and Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM), integrating modern infotainment capability into a period-correct cabin. The result is a car that balances authenticity with discreet modernization.
What further elevates this example is its auction history. This marks its fourth appearance on Bring a Trailer in recent years. It previously sold on the platform in October 2022 for $401,000, again in January 2023 for $401,000, and in November 2023 for $395,000. Such a clearly documented price trajectory for a single example is unusual and provides a transparent record of market engagement.
At the same time, the listing notes 21,000 miles shown (TMU), with a Carfax entry indicating a potential odometer rollback in December 2004 following a 43,000-mile record. A prior owner stated that the odometer was replaced, and total mileage is unknown. The car is also currently subject to a lien that must be satisfied before title transfer.
Ultimately, this is not simply a rare 964 Turbo 3.6 in a striking factory special-order color. It is a car defined by its limited production, documented configuration, repeated public sales history, and clearly disclosed mileage and title details. The combination of rarity, specification, and transparency is what sets this particular example apart within the broader 964 Turbo landscape.
