Bugatti Tourbillon Unveiled with V16 Engine and Hybrid System

Discover Bugatti’s Tourbillon: a 1,800 HP V16 hybrid masterpiece, blending tradition and innovation. Learn more about its design, specs, and future release.
In Molsheim, a new chapter begins — Bugatti has unveiled its naturally aspirated V16, the mechanical heart of the upcoming Tourbillon hypercar. Episode Seven of the YouTube docuseries “A New Era” marks a pivotal moment, tracing the journey that began in 2021 when Mate Rimac, now CEO of Bugatti Rimac, initiated a collaboration with engineering legends Cosworth.
True to its spirit, Bugatti bypassed conventional shortcuts. Instead of testing with a single-cylinder prototype, the team developed a four-cylinder mule to capture the nuances of performance and sound. By 2023, the full-scale V16 came to life — nearly a meter long, with a massive crankshaft, it produces 1,000 HP at 9,000 rpm and 900 Nm of torque.
Yet raw power was only part of the equation. The Tourbillon pairs the V16 with a hybrid system: three electric motors powered by an 800-volt, 25-kWh battery deliver an additional 800 HP. The total output of 1,800 HP launches the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2 seconds. Limited to 250 units, the Tourbillon enters production in 2026, starting at €3.8 million.
Sound was equally crucial — the V16 had to stir the soul. Testing footage, now available online, reveals a soundtrack reminiscent of racing legends. Each component, including the plenum, was crafted to strike a flawless balance between form and function.
Under Mate Rimac’s leadership, Bugatti hasn’t merely entered the age of electrification — it has done so on its own terms. The company’s production facilities already run on 100% green energy, and with the Tourbillon, Bugatti proves it’s possible to fuse tradition and innovation without losing its essence.
