Mercedes-Benz Reaches 2 Million Junge Sterne Sales
Mercedes-Benz announced delivery of its 2 millionth Junge Sterne certified used car, an electric EQB, highlighting battery transparency and warranty coverage.
Mercedes-Benz has reached a new milestone in its certified used car business: in February 2026, the two-millionth vehicle under the “Junge Sterne” program was handed over to a customer at the company’s Munich branch. The anniversary model was a fully electric EQB — a symbolic choice at a time when demand for pre-owned electric vehicles is steadily increasing.
Launched in March 2009, the “Junge Sterne” program has evolved into a distinct brand within Mercedes-Benz’s sales ecosystem. It covers vehicles up to six years old with a maximum mileage of 150,000 kilometers, each of which must pass a comprehensive technical inspection before receiving certification. This standardized process is designed to ensure consistent quality and strengthen confidence in the premium used car market.
The package offered to customers includes a two-year warranty, extendable to five years, 12 months of mobility coverage, a valid inspection certificate for at least 21 months, verified mileage, defined maintenance standards, and a 14-day exchange right. In practical terms, these commitments bring the used-car purchase experience closer to that of buying a new vehicle.
Electric models receive additional attention within the program. For battery-electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz provides two specific commitments: a high-voltage battery warranty and a battery health certificate. The warranty is based on the remaining term of the original manufacturer coverage, which for certain models can extend up to eight years or 160,000 kilometers, and in some cases up to ten years or 250,000 kilometers. The certificate documents the current technical assessment of the battery, increasing transparency around the most critical component of an electric vehicle.
Market developments underline the relevance of this approach. In Germany, interest in used battery-electric vehicles is growing. Industry data indicate that in 2024, private buyers purchased 173,000 used fully electric cars — exceeding the number of new BEVs sold to private customers during the same period. As of January 1, 2025, around 1.65 million electric passenger cars were registered in Germany, representing roughly 3.3 percent of the total vehicle fleet. These figures suggest that the used EV market is expanding and that transparent battery assessment is becoming a decisive factor for buyers.
“Junge Sterne” vehicles are sold through Mercedes-Benz’s extensive dealer network in Germany and via the online platform gebrauchtewagen.mercedes-benz.de. Customers can also opt for tailored financial products, including the Plus3 model, which offers three options at the end of the contract term: purchase the vehicle, extend the financing, or return the car.
Reaching the two-million mark highlights not only the scale of the program but also the growing strategic importance of certified pre-owned vehicles for the brand. As Mercedes-Benz celebrates 140 years of innovation, the company positions quality standards and transparency as guiding principles — extending them from new vehicles to the evolving market for used cars.
