Mattel releases detailed 1:12 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL model with customization options

Mattel launches a 1:12 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL model in its Hot Wheels premium line, with 1600 parts, metal details, and customization features. Pre-orders start May 2.
Mattel has unveiled a striking collaboration with Mercedes-Benz: a detailed building set of the iconic 300 SL “Gullwing” coupe, composed of 1,600 pieces under the new Mattel Brick Shop™ line. Far from a toy, this 1:12 scale model recreates the legendary 1954 vehicle with remarkable fidelity, down to its defining design features.
Marking the beginning of Mattel’s new premium series, the model balances technical accuracy and aesthetic homage. Functional gullwing doors, a hood and trunk that open, metal rear-view mirrors, and a branded metal signature plate all contribute to its appeal for serious collectors. A bonus 1:64 scale Hot Wheels die-cast version of the car is also included, elegantly housed in a perspex display case.
The model was crafted by designers Benoit Monterroso and Craig Callum, whose collaboration brought this precision replica to life. Measuring 36 cm long and 10 cm high, the kit includes a wealth of customization options: interchangeable radiator grilles, wheels, lights, exhaust pipes, and even alternate seats.
The official European retail price is approximately €130. Pre-orders opened on May 2, 2025 via Mattel Creations and are now available on several global e-commerce platforms. Retail availability is expected this summer.
Given LEGO’s dominance in the high-detail construction kit segment, Mattel’s entry into the space with its own Brick Shop™ brand signals a move worth watching. Currently, the 300 SL stands as the only release under THE PREMIUM SERIES, but considering the scale of this debut, further additions to the line seem not only possible but likely.
