2026 Corolla Hatchback FX Edition Brings Back FX16 Spirit

Toyota revives the FX16 legacy with the 2026 Corolla Hatchback FX Edition, featuring sporty design, advanced tech, and limited U.S. availability.
Toyota is reviving the spirit of the 1980s with the launch of the 2026 Corolla Hatchback FX Edition — a limited-run model that blends the legacy of the iconic FX16 with modern performance and tech-forward design.
Built on the SE trim, the FX Edition makes a bold visual statement. It features 18-inch gloss white alloy wheels with black lug nuts and a black vented rear wing that enhances both styling and aerodynamics. A rear heritage badge recalls the original FX16, underlining the model's retro DNA.
Under the hood lies a familiar 2.0-liter Dynamic-Force engine, delivering 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Despite its sporty appearance, the FX Edition maintains efficiency with an estimated 33 MPG combined, according to Toyota.
Inside, the cabin continues the sporty-retro theme. The Sport Touring seats feature suede inserts and bold orange stitching, echoed on the door panels, steering wheel, and shift boot. A 7-inch digital gauge cluster comes standard, offering customizable layouts, along with a convenient wireless phone charger.
Technology-wise, the FX Edition is equipped with the 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system, featuring touch and voice interaction via the “Hey Toyota” assistant. The setup supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual Bluetooth device pairing, and Wi-Fi Connect powered by AT&T. Music lovers can enjoy integrated streaming via Apple Music and Amazon Music during trial periods.
On the safety front, the FX Edition includes the full suite of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 features — including a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist, and more.
Production is limited to 1,600 units for the U.S. market, with vehicles expected to arrive at dealerships in Fall 2025. Pricing has not yet been disclosed but is expected to be at the higher end of the Corolla Hatchback range.
By bringing the FX nameplate back to life, Toyota is doing more than nodding to its past — it's building a bridge between eras. The FX Edition isn't just a hatchback; it’s a statement, a revival of character, and a glimpse of how history can inspire the present.
