Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland takes on Spa-Francorchamps in key championship rounds

Robert de Haan leads the Porsche Carrera Cup into Spa, facing rivals Klein and Oeverhaus on the legendary Ardennes circuit. Full preview and analysis.
After kicking off the season at Italy’s Imola circuit, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland has moved to Belgium’s iconic Spa-Francorchamps. Nestled in the heart of the Ardennes, this track — nicknamed the “Ardennes Rollercoaster” — hosted the third and fourth races of the season as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship weekend.
This is no ordinary venue. With its dramatic elevation changes, fast-flowing corners, and the legendary Eau Rouge section, Spa poses a formidable challenge that transforms every lap into a racing spectacle. Add to that the region’s notoriously unpredictable May weather, and the ingredients for thrilling, high-stakes duels are all in place.
At the center of the action is 18-year-old Robert de Haan, the Dutch driver for Proton Huber Competition. Coming off two wins in Imola, he arrived in Spa as the championship leader. De Haan knows the track well, and its long straights are a perfect match for his driving style, making him a clear favorite for more podium success.
Close behind in the standings is Frenchman Marvin Klein, who already clinched a victory at Spa last year in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. German driver Theo Oeverhaus of Bonk Motorsport sits in third, consistently scoring points even if a podium has yet to come. All three are part of Porsche’s extended driver development pipeline, including the Talent Pool program — a clear sign of the brand’s commitment to fostering young talent.
Brazil’s Matheus Ferreira, racing with Target, currently leads the rookie standings and is the top-performing driver in Porsche Deutschland’s junior development program. He is joined by Emely de Heus, the first female driver to enter the Talent Pool. Her presence adds a welcome dimension of diversity to the series, underscoring its evolving character.
The Belgian round also welcomed guest entrants, including Mikel Azcona of Spain. A WTCR champion, Azcona impressed by finishing ninth in only his second race in a rear-wheel-drive Porsche 911 GT3 Cup — a notable feat for a driver used to front-wheel drive.
This year, sustainability is at the forefront: the entire eight-round season is run using the synthetic fuel “DTM Pro Climate”, aimed at reducing motorsport’s carbon footprint. This initiative mirrors similar steps taken by ADAC in its other racing series and signals a future-focused shift in racing standards.
The Spa circuit remains one of the toughest tests for both driver skill and car endurance. The shifting weather, demanding layout, and iconic high-speed sections offer the perfect setting to separate the great from the good. With fierce competition not only in the overall classification but also within the ProAm and Rookie categories, the excitement reaches every level of the grid.
For teams and organizers alike, Spa is more than just a race — it’s a showcase of what Porsche stands for: passion, precision, innovation, and a bold move toward a more sustainable motorsport future.
