Porsche continues Executive Board reshuffle with internal appointments

Porsche AG names Vera Schalwig and Joachim Scharnagl to Executive Board roles, continuing its generational leadership transition planned for August 2025.
Porsche AG is continuing its strategic generational shift within the Executive Board, announcing a new wave of appointments set to take effect in August 2025. The move is part of a long-planned succession process, emphasizing continuity from within and reinforcing leadership resilience.
As of August 19, Vera Schalwig will take over the Human Resources and Social Affairs division, succeeding Andreas Haffner, who has spent over three decades with the company. Schalwig currently oversees HR operations at the company’s Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant and serves on Porsche’s Supervisory Board. Her internal promotion signals the company's confidence in long-serving leaders and the importance of preserving Porsche's distinct corporate culture.
On the same date, Joachim Scharnagl will assume responsibility for the Procurement division, replacing Barbara Frenkel — the first woman in Porsche's history to join the Executive Board. Frenkel's tenure was marked by her critical role in navigating supply chain disruptions during the pandemic, semiconductor shortages, and the war in Ukraine. She also championed greater sustainability and environmental responsibility across procurement practices.
Another key shift will take place on July 1, when Michael Steiner, the longstanding Executive Board member for Research and Development, will step into the role of Deputy Chairman. He will relinquish his leadership duties within Group Development at Volkswagen to focus fully on shaping Porsche’s future product portfolio. Given the accelerating transition toward electrification and digital technologies, this move appears aimed at strengthening Porsche's technical direction at the highest level.
These leadership changes are not mere personnel shifts. They reflect Porsche’s broader strategy to blend internal expertise with forward-looking innovation. With continuity at its core, the brand is doubling down on sustainability, digitization, and the development of human capital — essential pillars for navigating the evolving automotive landscape.
