Rising stars and seasoned drivers open Porsche Supercup 2025 in Imola

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2025 begins in Imola with 28 cars, new teams, Porsche Juniors Ghiretti and Oeverhaus, and eight F1 support rounds.
The 2025 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season kicks off with high expectations, promising to be one of the most intense editions in the championship’s storied history. From May 16 to 18, the opening round will unfold on the legendary Imola circuit in Italy, marking the start of the 33rd season of this prestigious one-make series that runs alongside the Formula 1 calendar.
Twenty-eight Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars are entered for the opener, including 23 full-season drivers from ten countries. They’ll be joined by eight guest starters, creating a vibrant and ambitious field of 31. Two new teams — Spain’s Hadeca Racing and Italy’s Target — are making their Supercup debut, adding to the youth-centric momentum of the series.
The spotlight is firmly on the Porsche Junior drivers. Germany’s Theo Oeverhaus joins Proton Huber Competition, while France’s Alessandro Ghiretti returns with Schumacher CLRT. Ghiretti enters the season on a high, having clinched titles in both the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and France in 2024. With both Juniors showcasing strong form in national cups, they now face a significant test on the international stage.
Among the seasoned contenders, Marvin Klein stands out. The Frenchman, who finished third overall last year, is back with BWT Lechner Racing aiming for the crown. His teammate, Dutch talent Robert de Haan, delivered an emphatic statement last month by winning both races at the Carrera Cup Deutschland opener in Imola — a bold signal ahead of his Supercup campaign.
Another compelling debut comes from Flynt Schuring, younger brother of DTM driver Morris Schuring. Joining Schumacher CLRT, the 18-year-old benefits from the mentorship of three-time Supercup champion Larry ten Voorde, who has stepped away from active racing. This generational blend of experience and ambition enriches the Supercup paddock.
Imola’s undulating layout, where overtaking is notoriously difficult, places extra emphasis on qualifying. “With such a tight field, starting position is key,” says Oeverhaus, underscoring the strategic weight of Saturday’s grid battle. Teams are still digesting the data from the Barcelona test sessions, fine-tuning setups to ensure peak performance when the lights go out.
The Supercup will once again tour eight European circuits in tandem with Formula 1. From Imola, the series moves on to Monaco, Barcelona, Spielberg, Spa-Francorchamps, Budapest, Zandvoort, and wraps up in Monza. Each venue promises fierce competition — a hallmark of a championship where raw pace and calm precision often trump reputation.
With returning tracks, hungry rookies, and veteran title hopefuls, the 2025 season is set to be a thrilling continuation of a tradition where every hundredth of a second counts.
