Mercedes-Benz adds e-Vignette purchase feature for drivers in Germany

Mercedes-Benz drivers in Germany can now buy e-Vignettes for six European countries directly from their car via MBUX and Mercedes pay. No border queues.
Mercedes-Benz continues to invest in digital convenience: as of May 2025, customers in Germany can now purchase and pay for e-Vignettes directly from their vehicles. This new feature is available through the integrated Mercedes-Benz Store within the second-generation MBUX system (NTG7).
All it takes is a few taps on the infotainment screen. The driver selects the destination country and desired validity period, enters the license plate if needed, and confirms the payment using biometric two-factor authentication — either via the in-car fingerprint sensor or through a smartphone.
Currently, the service covers six countries: Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Hungary. Each offers multiple vignette options. For example, a 10-day vignette in the Czech Republic costs CZK 310 (approx. €12), while a yearly vignette for Switzerland is CHF 40.
According to the official announcement, Mercedes-Benz plans to expand the service to additional countries. Although no specific names were mentioned, the move aligns with ongoing efforts within the EU to harmonize toll systems across borders. Such developments may open the door to future integrations, especially for Austria or France.
The payment process is secured via the in-house platform Mercedes pay+, which uses Visa’s Cloud Token technology and complies with PCI DSS standards. Drivers can authorize transactions through fingerprint recognition, eliminating the need for PINs or external devices.
Once the payment is completed, the e-Vignette is stored in the infotainment system and also sent by email as a PDF receipt. Compliance is enforced via automatic license plate recognition systems in each participating country.
This feature is available for models equipped with the latest MBUX NTG7 system, including the C-Class (W206), S-Class (W223), SL, EQE, EQS, and others from the current-generation Mercedes-Benz lineup.
In a market that increasingly favors contactless and digital-first solutions, Mercedes-Benz’s integration of toll purchases into its vehicles reflects a broader strategy of building a seamless ecosystem for its customers. If this trajectory continues, in-car services like this could soon become standard across the automotive landscape.
