Mercedes-Benz launches global deployment of Microsoft 365 Copilot, bringing AI tools to employees worldwide and expanding the company’s digital workplace strategy.

Mercedes-Benz has announced a major step in its digital transformation, launching a global rollout of Microsoft 365 Copilot as a standard tool for the company’s digital workplace. The artificial intelligence assistant will be made available to employees worldwide, primarily across administrative and production-related functions. According to the company, the initiative represents one of the largest deployments of AI workplace tools within European industry.

The rollout forms part of Mercedes-Benz’s long-term digital and artificial intelligence strategy as well as its strategic partnership with Microsoft. The company stresses that the goal is not simply to introduce isolated AI tools but to integrate them systematically into everyday work. Copilot is expected to assist employees with preparing documents, analysing information and compiling materials for decision-making, while handling a share of routine tasks.

The assistant is integrated directly into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem and operates within applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. In this environment, the AI tool can automatically generate reports, summarise large volumes of information and help structure data. This approach is intended to free employees to focus more on analytical, creative and strategic work.

Mercedes-Benz says that standardising a unified digital platform across the Group will help reduce IT complexity and lower operating costs. At the same time, it creates a shared environment for testing and scaling new digital solutions more quickly. In the longer term, the platform is expected to support the deployment of custom AI agents designed to automate administrative and specialised processes within the company.

Microsoft 365 Copilot has already been used in selected areas of Mercedes-Benz since 2024. According to the company, roughly half of employees now use AI tools on a weekly basis, and the level of usage has more than doubled over the past year. The broader rollout is supported by training programmes, qualification initiatives and an internal AI community aimed at strengthening digital skills across the workforce.

Responsible use of artificial intelligence remains a central element of the initiative. Mercedes-Benz states that AI technologies are deployed within clearly defined governance frameworks designed to ensure data security, compliance and reliable operation.

The company also sees artificial intelligence as a technology that can influence the entire value chain. AI-based copilots already support processes in areas such as procurement, development, workshops and production. Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz plans to expand the use of intelligent assistants and AI agents, gradually embedding artificial intelligence as a routine part of everyday work across the organisation.
