BMW M2 Racing concludes endurance trials at Nürburgring

BMW M2 Racing faces final endurance test at 24h Nürburgring before 2026 launch. Works drivers and FK Performance Motorsport push the car to its limits.
At the 24 Hours of Nürburgring on June 21–22, 2025, BMW M Motorsport will field its new entry-level race car — the BMW M2 Racing. This iconic endurance race marks the vehicle’s final major test before joining the customer racing program in 2026.
Behind the wheel will be a strong lineup of BMW works drivers: Belgian racers Ugo de Wilde and Charles Weerts, and German driver Jens Klingmann — who has been closely involved in the M2 Racing’s development from the beginning. Also joining them is seasoned Nürburgring competitor and motorsport journalist Michael Bräutigam, offering a unique analytical perspective from the cockpit.
This high-stakes race is the culmination of over 30,000 kilometers of development testing. The BMW M2 Racing features a 2.0-liter turbocharged B48 engine delivering 313 hp and 420 Nm of torque. It is equipped with a 7-speed automatic transmission, GT3-derived suspension components, and a full FIA-certified roll cage.
The car will compete in the SP3T class, reserved for turbocharged vehicles with engines up to two liters. Facing established contenders like the Subaru WRX STI and Audi TT RS, the M2 Racing enters a fiercely competitive field.
Operational support is once again entrusted to FK Performance Motorsport, who previously oversaw the M2 Racing’s successful debut at the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) in October 2024. During that race, the car ran reliably with no reported issues, indicating solid preparation.
This effort forms part of BMW M Motorsport’s broader strategy to grow its customer racing footprint. From 2026, the M2 Racing will be available to private teams worldwide, with eligibility in series such as TC America, 24H Series, Belcar, and various national championships in Japan, South Africa, and beyond.
For BMW, this is more than a technical milestone — it's a legacy moment. With 20 overall victories at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, BMW is the most successful manufacturer in the event’s history. The M2 Racing aims to carry this tradition forward, giving the next generation of drivers an accessible yet serious platform to chase endurance racing success.
Its performance at the “Green Hell” will be closely watched. More than just a data-gathering exercise, this final test will signal whether the BMW M2 Racing is truly ready for real-world racing. Given its preparation and team composition, the signs are promising for a confident step into competitive customer motorsport.
