Original-Owner 2005 Ford GT With 4,100 Miles Appears on Bring a Trailer Auction
Bring a Trailer lists a single-owner 2005 Ford GT with 4,100 miles, Mark IV Red paint and factory options. The supercar tribute to the GT40 is currently bidding at $460,000.
An example of an early-2000s American supercar has appeared on the Bring a Trailer auction platform — a 2005 Ford GT that has remained with its original owner since new. The car was delivered through Ford of Kenly in North Carolina and has stayed in the same collection ever since. At the time of writing, bidding had reached $460,000 with several days remaining before the auction closes.
This car belongs to the first generation of the modern Ford GT and forms part of a limited production run. For the 2005 model year, Ford produced 2,022 examples, while total production of the 2004–2006 generation reached roughly 4,038 cars. That relatively small output is one of the factors that helped turn the model into a sought-after collector car over time.
The example offered for sale stands out for several reasons. First, it remains a single-owner car, something increasingly uncommon two decades after the model’s release. Second, the odometer shows 4,100 miles, and service records indicate the car has been maintained over the years rather than simply stored. Maintenance items have included replacement drive belts, an EGR valve service, air-conditioning recharge, and in 2026 the installation of a new battery and fresh transaxle fluid.
The body is finished in Mark IV Red with optional white over-the-top racing stripes, one of the most recognizable visual combinations associated with the model. The car was also ordered with all four factory options available for the Ford GT: painted stripes, forged BBS aluminum wheels, red-finished brake calipers, and the optional McIntosh audio system.
Mechanically, the Ford GT reflects the philosophy of performance cars of its era. At its core is a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 producing 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed Ricardo manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The car also features an aluminum spaceframe chassis, a dry-sump lubrication system, and a water-to-air intercooler.
The interior is trimmed in Ebony leather with seats designed by Sparco that use carbon-fiber shells. The instrument cluster takes inspiration from the legendary Ford GT40, including a distinctive central tachometer layout.
The modern Ford GT itself was conceived as a tribute to the original GT40, the racing car that delivered four consecutive victories for Ford at the 24 Hours of Le Mans during the 1960s. A concept version debuted in 2002 and the project became part of the celebrations marking Ford’s centennial.
This particular car also retains a notable collection of original documentation and accessories. Included in the sale are the window sticker, owner’s manual, service records, a letter from Ford, a car cover, and various memorabilia. According to the listing, the Carfax report shows no accidents or damage.
Over the years, the first-generation Ford GT has secured a strong place in the collector-car market. Its limited production, direct historical link to the GT40, and traditional supercar configuration with a manual transmission continue to make it one of the most desirable modern American performance cars.
With bidding already at $460,000, the auction illustrates the sustained demand for well-preserved examples. Given the combination of single ownership, low mileage, full factory specification, and comprehensive documentation, this particular Ford GT may draw significant attention from collectors before the hammer falls.
