BMW Group once again confirmed its position as the largest automotive exporter from the United States by value. According to data released by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the company exported vehicles worth about nine billion US dollars in 2025, maintaining its leadership in this category.

The result is largely driven by BMW’s manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This facility produces the brand’s X family of sport utility vehicles, which are shipped to markets around the world. In 2025 alone, the plant exported nearly 200,000 BMW vehicles to around 120 countries.

Over a longer period, the scale of these exports becomes even more significant. Since 2014, BMW has exported almost three million vehicles from the United States, with a combined export value reaching approximately 113 billion US dollars.

Milan Nedeljković, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, emphasized that such export performance is closely linked to open international trade. According to him, free markets and strong regional supplier networks allow manufacturing sites to grow and support long-term economic prosperity.

The Spartanburg facility remains central to this strategy. The plant assembles the BMW X3, X4, X5, X6, X7 and XM, models that form the backbone of the company’s global SUV lineup. It is also considered the largest BMW production plant worldwide and the global hub for the brand’s X-series vehicles.

In 2025, employees assembled 412,799 vehicles at the site, marking the third-highest annual production volume in the plant’s 32-year history. More than 1,500 vehicles are built there each day, with roughly half of the production destined for export markets.

Most vehicles produced in Spartanburg are exported through the Port of Charleston in South Carolina, though additional East Coast ports are also used. In addition, more than 14,000 BMW vehicles were shipped by rail for export during the year.

BMW has steadily expanded its presence in the region since the early 1990s. Since 1992, the company has invested nearly 16 billion US dollars in its South Carolina operations. Today, the plant employs more than 11,000 people and plays a critical role in BMW’s global production network.

With a large share of its output shipped overseas each year, the Spartanburg plant has helped BMW remain the largest automotive exporter from the United States by value for more than a decade. As global demand for X-series SUVs remains strong, the facility is expected to continue playing a central role in the company’s export strategy.
