René Rast secured P3 and P2 for Schubert Motorsport at Lausitzring, while BMW M4 GT3 EVO showed solid qualifying and pit performance in DTM 2025.

At the second round of the DTM season held at the Lausitzring, Schubert Motorsport achieved a long-anticipated breakthrough with the new BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Stealing the spotlight was René Rast, who secured two podium finishes — third place on Saturday and second on Sunday after a dramatic photo finish.

Rast, driving car number 33, consistently delivered strong pace throughout the weekend and capitalized not only on speed but also on the flawless performance of his pit crew. A rapid pit stop on Sunday briefly propelled him into the lead, although the Ferrari ahead proved too fast to hold off. Still, Rast managed to fend off a late charge from Jules Gounon in the Mercedes, clinching second place in a heart-stopping dash to the finish line. The gap was razor-thin, and only the photo finish confirmed Rast’s edge.

Meanwhile, Rast’s teammate Marco Wittmann experienced a weekend of mixed fortunes. His fifth-place finish on Saturday was promising, and a second-place result in Sunday’s qualifying gave reason for optimism. However, early in the race, a temporary failure in the ABS system caused his wheels to lock up at Turn 1, sending him straight off and damaging his tires. Dropping to the back of the field, Wittmann battled back to eighth, salvaging valuable points despite the setback.

After two rounds, Schubert Motorsport holds third in the team standings with 84 points. Rast is sixth in the drivers’ championship with 47 points, while Wittmann sits ninth with 39. In a season marked by tight competition and blistering pace, BMW continues to show steady improvement — especially in qualifying performance and pit lane execution. These strengths could prove decisive as the season progresses.

Outside the DTM, Schubert Motorsport and FK Performance Motorsport also fielded BMW M4 GT3 EVOs in the ADAC GT Masters. The best result so far was a sixth-place finish, suggesting the car has promise across multiple platforms — though wins remain elusive.

The next round will present another test for BMW and its customer teams. Based on what we saw at the Lausitzring, there is clear potential in both the team and the car — now it’s a matter of translating that into consistent success across the full season calendar.
