Porsche pursues Formula E lead with record run into Shanghai

Porsche extends its Formula E points streak and qualifying success as Wehrlein and da Costa prepare for Shanghai. See standings and race insights.
The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team is heading into the decisive phase of the season with a compelling mix of consistency, technical refinement, and strategic maturity. After nine out of sixteen races, Porsche stands second in both the manufacturers' and teams' standings, with drivers Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa firmly holding second and third place respectively in the drivers’ championship.
One of Porsche’s standout strengths this season has been its qualifying performance. The team reaches the duels more often than any other, and Wehrlein recently set a new Formula E record by winning a group phase for the 34th time during the Tokyo E-Prix. This record not only highlights the driver’s experience but also showcases the capabilities of the updated Porsche 99X Electric GEN3 Evo.
The team’s run of scoring points in 19 consecutive races — the best in the championship — underscores their strategic consistency and operational efficiency. Porsche now leads the field in race finishes with points, outpacing the next best team by an impressive 11-race margin.
As the championship moves to Shanghai, Porsche maintains a cautious optimism. The Chinese round will mark Wehrlein’s 90th E-Prix start since his Formula E debut — a testament to his durability and experience. Last year, he secured a second-place finish in Saturday’s race, while da Costa claimed victory on Sunday after a less fortunate Saturday performance.
The Shanghai International Circuit, adapted from the Formula 1 layout, features broad, fast sections that emphasize aerodynamics and smart use of the slipstream. The upcoming races are expected to be tactically intense, with plenty of overtaking opportunities and a critical focus on energy management.
A technological highlight will be the return of the Pit Boost — rapid charging at 600 kW power output, now implemented for the fourth time. This innovation forces teams to calculate their pit stops precisely, making timing as critical as raw speed.
With seven races left, Porsche continues its close battle with frontrunner Nissan. Given the team’s current form and past success in Shanghai, the coming rounds could significantly reshape the championship hierarchy.
