BMW showcases Art Cars by Stella, Nelson, and Kayama in Bratislava’s Danubiana Museum from May 27 to June 1, 2025, during its world art tour.

From May 27 to June 1, the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum in Bratislava hosts an exhibition that blends art and engineering in a uniquely captivating way. Titled "The Private Collection by BMW," the show features three landmark BMW Art Cars, each representing a moment where automotive design meets artistic innovation. On display are Frank Stella’s graphically patterned BMW 3.0 CSL (1976), Michael Jagamara Nelson’s BMW M3 Group A (1989) adorned with Aboriginal Papunya art, and Matazo Kayama’s lyrical BMW 535i (1990), which echoes the aesthetics of traditional Japanese painting.

This exhibition marks a decade-long partnership between BMW Slovakia and the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum. Over the past ten years, the two institutions have collaborated on a variety of cultural projects. Set on a serene peninsula along the Danube River, Danubiana is not only architecturally striking but also considered one of Europe’s leading venues for contemporary art. In this setting, the Art Cars—rolling canvases of history and vision—feel all the more contemplative.

The BMW Art Car series, launched in 1975, has become a defining feature of the BMW Group’s cultural identity. The 2025 World Tour, celebrating 50 years of the project, has already made stops in Vienna, Hong Kong, Dubai, and Shanghai before arriving in Slovakia. Organizers describe this as the most extensive exhibition of the collection ever staged, connecting audiences across five continents through shared appreciation of design, movement, and meaning.

Adding a forward-looking dimension to the Bratislava event are creative works by students from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU) and children involved in the "Children and Architecture" initiative. Their projects, inspired by the MINI Aceman concept, bring fresh interpretations of form and mobility into the gallery space.

The BMW Art Car World Tour 2025 is more than an automotive showcase. It is a redefinition of how technology, culture, and imagination intersect. And for Bratislava, the exhibition offers more than aesthetics—it becomes a platform for global cultural dialogue.
