Rivian announced the R2 electric SUV lineup with trims, pricing and specifications. Deliveries begin in 2026, introducing a new midsize EV platform and expanded Rivian range.

Rivian has revealed the full trim lineup and pricing for its new electric SUV, the R2, a model designed to expand the company’s reach beyond the premium segment. Built on an entirely new midsize platform, the vehicle aims to bring Rivian’s signature mix of off-road capability, performance and technology to a broader audience.

The first deliveries are scheduled to begin in spring 2026. The rollout starts with the R2 Performance with Launch Package, priced from $57,990. Additional Premium configurations are expected in late 2026, while the more affordable Standard versions will follow in 2027. Rivian also plans a further Standard variant toward the end of 2027 with a starting price around $45,000.

The R2 is built on Rivian’s all-new midsize platform, developed to reduce manufacturing complexity and enable higher production volumes. The architecture includes large high-pressure die castings and a structural battery pack in which the top of the battery also forms part of the vehicle floor. Rivian has also introduced a new 4695 battery cell format, designed to improve energy density and power output.

Despite its more compact footprint, the R2 delivers strong performance figures. The flagship R2 Performance variant features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration from 0–60 mph can take as little as 3.6 seconds, while highway acceleration from 50 to 70 mph may occur in about 1.55 seconds. Estimated range reaches up to 330 miles for Performance versions, while the Standard Long Range configuration is expected to deliver up to 345 miles.

Technology plays a central role in the R2. The vehicle uses a perception system that combines 11 HDR cameras totaling 65 megapixels and five radar units. Data processing is handled by a computing system capable of roughly 200 TOPS of AI performance, enabling advanced driver-assistance features and future in-vehicle software capabilities.

Built on this architecture is Autonomy+, Rivian’s driver assistance platform. The system offers L2+ hands-free assisted driving on certain roads and is designed to operate across roughly 3.5 million miles of highways in the United States and Canada. The service is available via a $49.99 monthly subscription or a $2,500 one-time purchase, while the Launch Package includes lifetime access.

Charging compatibility has also been expanded. The R2 uses a native NACS charging port, providing access to the Tesla Supercharger network while still supporting other charging networks through a CCS adapter. Under favorable conditions, fast charging can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.

Inside, the vehicle follows Rivian’s minimalist design approach inspired by natural materials. The cabin features recycled birch wood accents and is configured for five passengers. Practicality remains a priority: rear seats fold flat to create a level cargo surface, and the front trunk offers about 5.2 cubic feet of storage space for gear and luggage.

Although smaller than the company’s R1 models, the R2 maintains Rivian’s off-road character. It offers 9.6 inches of ground clearance, approach and departure angles of 25° and 26°, and multiple drive modes designed for snow, sand and off-road terrain.

The vehicle is also significantly lighter than Rivian’s R1 lineup—by nearly 2,000 pounds—and rides on a 115.6-inch wheelbase, a configuration intended to improve maneuverability in urban environments while retaining trail capability.

Production will take place at Rivian’s existing manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois, where the company already builds the R1T pickup and R1S SUV. Using the established plant is expected to accelerate the launch of the new model while reducing capital expenditure.

Positioned as Rivian’s entry point into the midsize electric SUV market, the R2 is expected to compete in a segment that includes vehicles such as the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E, while maintaining Rivian’s distinct focus on outdoor capability and adventure-oriented design.

The model will make a public appearance at SXSW 2026, and Rivian plans to open its online configurator in the coming months.
