Ram introduces the 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry, an off-road focused version positioned between Warlock and Rebel. Learn about specs, engines and features.

Ram has opened orders for the 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry, a new off-road oriented version positioned between the Warlock and Rebel trims, with a starting price of $62,410. The truck is based on the Ram 1500 Big Horn 4x4 Crew Cab and adds factory-installed upgrades designed to improve trail capability without moving into the higher price range of Ram’s more extreme off-road models.

The BackCountry effectively expands Ram’s off-road lineup. The company points to continued growth in the off-road pickup segment and presents this model as an option for buyers who want trail-ready hardware without stepping up to more expensive trims such as the Rebel. Within the Ram 1500 lineup, the new version sits between the entry-level Warlock and higher-spec off-road models including Rebel and RHO.

The package builds on the existing Off-Road Group and adds several functional upgrades. It includes a 1-inch suspension lift, heavy-duty shock absorbers, skid plates protecting the steering system, transfer case and fuel tank, and a rear electronic locking differential (ELocker). The truck rides on 32-inch off-road tires mounted on 18-inch Satin Black aluminum wheels, and it also features front tow hooks. The Selec-Speed system helps maintain a controlled speed over rough terrain by automatically managing throttle and braking.

Visually, the BackCountry is distinguished by black exterior details, contrasting fender flares and darkened badges. The lower body and bumpers are finished in Diamond Black Crystal, while the grille surround matches the body color. Inside, the cabin uses durable vinyl bucket seats with mesh inserts, all-weather rubber floor mats and a MOLLE seatback storage system designed for gear organization.

Two engine options are available. The first is a 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six producing 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque. The second is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with eTorque rated at 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The BackCountry package itself costs $2,995 and is available on the Big Horn trim with either the Level 1 or Level 2 Equipment Group. Level 1 adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals and folding mirrors. Level 2 introduces a 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument display, dual-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver seat and a nine-speaker amplified audio system.

Within the broader Ram 1500 lineup, the BackCountry fills the gap between simpler off-road packages and the more specialized models. The range itself extends from the basic Tradesman trim to high-performance versions such as the RHO, where engine output reaches up to 540 horsepower.

The arrival of BackCountry strengthens Ram’s presence in the off-road pickup segment, which the company describes as one of the fastest-growing areas of the truck market. Orders for the model are now open, marking the start of its rollout alongside the rest of the 2026 Ram 1500 lineup.
