Xiaomi YU7 Electric SUV Surges Ahead With Massive Pre-Orders

Xiaomi’s YU7 SUV secures over 200,000 orders in minutes, rivaling Tesla Model Y with 800V tech, long range, and luxury design.
Xiaomi has officially launched its first luxury all-electric SUV, the YU7 — and the Chinese giant’s bold new model is already shaking up the local EV market by taking direct aim at the Tesla Model Y. Within just a few minutes of pre-orders opening, the YU7 racked up over 200,000 reservations, underscoring the strong appetite for this ambitious new entry in the premium SUV space.
Xiaomi’s strategy goes far beyond its reputation as an electronics powerhouse. The YU7 is built on a cutting-edge 800-volt architecture and comes equipped with the company’s own HyperEngine V6s Plus motor. In its top Max version, it delivers up to 690 horsepower and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds. For those who prefer longer range over raw speed, the entry-level Standard version produces 320 hp but boasts an impressive range of up to 835 kilometers — making it one of the longest-range electric SUVs in its class.
Design is another highlight. Xiaomi’s engineers have created a sleek, low-slung silhouette with an extended hood and sporty proportions. Buyers can choose from nine distinct body colors and multiple wheel options ranging from 19 to 21 inches. Inside, the cabin features safe, OEKO-TEX® certified materials, zero-gravity massage seats, a generous luggage compartment and the flexibility to fold the rear seats flat into a full-length bed.
Safety and tech are no less ambitious. The YU7 uses ultra-high-strength steel rated at 2200 MPa combined with aluminum for enhanced rigidity. Assisted driving is powered by NVIDIA’s new DRIVE AGX Thor chip, delivering 700 TOPS of processing power alongside a full suite of sensors, from LiDAR to ultrasonic radars. Passengers benefit from a panoramic triple Mini LED display, Xiaomi’s Hyper XiaoAI AI assistant and the brand’s expanded “Human x Car x Home” ecosystem that aims to seamlessly link the car with the user’s devices and smart home.
For now, the YU7’s focus remains on the Chinese market, with no official word yet on a wider international rollout. But the strong launch numbers and robust technology package suggest Xiaomi could become a serious contender if it decides to challenge Tesla and other global players beyond China. For Tesla, the benchmark remains — but Xiaomi is edging ever closer, and the order book speaks for itself.
