The car represents one of the most complex and exclusive creations from the independent AMG era, when each build could be tailored to a specific client.

The foundation is a 1991 C126 coupe, but little remains of the standard 560 SEC. It features a full AMG widebody conversion with flared fenders, revised bumpers, and side skirts, along with multi-piece AMG Aero III wheels produced by OZ Racing. Finished in Malachite Green Metallic, the car captures the bold visual identity of late-1980s and early-1990s AMG design.

The most significant changes lie under the hood. The car is powered by a rare 6.0-liter V8 based on the M117 engine but incorporating elements of the newer M119 architecture, including DOHC four-valve cylinder heads. These transitional AMG configurations were developed during a brief period of experimentation, pushing both power and engineering complexity. Output was rated at around 375 horsepower, significantly above the standard 560 SEC.

The interior further elevates the car’s uniqueness. Belgian specialists Carat Duchatelet reworked the cabin using black and green buffalo leather across the dashboard, doors, and seats. The instrument dials were hand-finished, while features include power-adjustable heated Recaro seats, burl wood trim, and a Nakamichi audio system. This level of customization reflects AMG’s pre-merger approach, where cars were effectively built to individual specifications.

Rarity is a defining factor. Sources estimate that only around 50 widebody AMG coupes with 6.0-liter engines were produced, with each example differing in detail. This makes direct comparisons difficult and strengthens their position as highly collectible vehicles.

The car’s auction history adds further context. It was previously offered at RM Sotheby’s with an estimate of $650,000 to $850,000 but remained unsold. Against that backdrop, the current $200,000 bid appears to be only an early stage in the process, with the final result likely to provide a clearer indication of market demand for such rare AMG models.

The ownership history of this specific example is not fully documented. It is reportedly linked to Japan and possible AMG Japan involvement, though a complete timeline prior to recent years is not confirmed. Recent servicing, including work on the engine and transmission, was completed in 2024.

Taken together, the combination of rare engineering, bespoke craftsmanship, and its status as a pre-merger AMG creation places this car in a distinct category within the collector market.
