Honda reports four 2026 models earned IIHS safety ratings, including TSP+ for HR-V and Passport. Explore crash test results and safety features.

Four Honda models for 2026 have secured top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, with two of them — Passport and HR-V — earning the highest distinction, TOP SAFETY PICK+, while the Civic Hatchback and Accord received TOP SAFETY PICK.

The results are driven by strong crash-test performance. All four vehicles achieved the top GOOD rating in the most demanding IIHS evaluations, including the small overlap front test, the updated moderate overlap front test, and the revised side-impact test, which now involves 82% more crash energy. These tests are designed to reflect severe real-world collisions, including impacts with larger SUVs.

The significance lies in the price positioning of these models. Civic, Accord and HR-V start below $30,000, placing them among the more affordable vehicles on the market, where such safety ratings are less common. This aligns with Honda’s Safety for Everyone approach, aimed at extending high safety standards beyond premium segments into widely accessible models.

Each of the awarded vehicles is equipped with the Honda Sensing suite, which includes collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. According to the company, these technologies have been installed in more than 10 million Honda vehicles in the U.S. since their introduction in 2014.

Additional protection comes from the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, designed to distribute crash energy and reduce the force transferred to occupants in frontal collisions. Combined with advanced airbag systems and seatbelt pretensioners, this forms a comprehensive approach to occupant safety.

These IIHS results are reinforced by government testing. All fully evaluated Honda models in recent years have received a 5-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, highlighting a consistent focus on safety across both structural design and driver-assist technologies.
