How to Use Skoda Car Air Conditioning Safely in Hot Weather

Avoid colds and discomfort in summer heat: Skoda explains how to use car air conditioning correctly, when to ventilate and why maintenance matters.
In the summer, many drivers barely sit behind the wheel before blasting the air conditioning at full power. But Škoda experts warn: this habit can easily turn into a sore throat or runny nose — and worse, lead to ventilation issues inside the car.
Drivers are advised to stick to one simple rule — the difference between outside and inside temperatures should not exceed 5 °C. So if it’s a scorching 31 degrees outside, keep the cabin no cooler than 26. It sounds minor, but this small step helps prevent sudden temperature shocks that cause colds.
Head physician at the Škoda Medical Centre, Jana Parmova, emphasizes that before switching on the A/C, it’s best to ventilate naturally. Open all doors or lower the windows while driving slowly. This gives the cabin time to balance the heat so the cold air doesn’t hit your body abruptly.
Interestingly, the air conditioning system isn’t just for summer. In winter, it helps dry excess moisture — melting snow from shoes and clothes evaporates, keeping windows clear. Modern cabin filters combined with air recirculation clean the air inside, which matters in cities full of dust and allergens.
For drivers who prefer not to fiddle with settings, automatic climate control has long been a standard feature in Škoda cars. Smart sensors monitor the cabin, adjust airflow and fine-tune temperature automatically. All you need to do is trust the system and keep the vents open — but direct the flow upwards or towards the windows to avoid catching a cold.
Experts also remind drivers not to neglect maintenance: at least once a year, clean and disinfect the air conditioning system, check filter condition, and switch it off a few minutes before shutting off the engine. This reduces moisture buildup and mould risks.
If you keep an eye on regular checks and don’t overdo the cooling, your car’s air conditioning will remain a reliable ally — in sweltering heat or snowy seasons alike.
