Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius challenges the new electric GLC with EQ tech, S-Class comfort and fast charging ahead of its IAA Munich debut.

Mercedes-Benz is taking another confident step towards an electric future as CEO Ola Källenius personally puts the all-electric GLC through its paces, offering a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the brand’s new flagship.

At the Mercedes-Benz Technology Centre in Sindelfingen, Källenius swapped his boardroom for the driver’s seat, tackling five key challenges that highlight the new GLC’s dynamic handling, cutting-edge technology and everyday usability.

Equipped with EQ technology, the new GLC borrows heavily from the brand’s top-tier models. The inclusion of the S-Class AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering with up to 4.5 degrees of movement ensures remarkable ride comfort and surprising agility even on narrow city streets or bumpy roads.

Dimensionally, the electric GLC stands out — its wheelbase has grown by 8 centimetres, creating noticeably more space inside. Fold down the rear seats and there’s up to 1,740 litres of cargo capacity, plus an additional 128 litres in the front trunk, easily accessible via touch control.

Under the skin, Mercedes-Benz has installed an advanced 800-volt system. The result? In just ten minutes on a fast charger, drivers can add up to 260 kilometres of range. Preliminary forecasts suggest an impressive driving range of up to 650 kilometres (WLTP) with a 94.5 kWh battery pack.

Practicality hasn’t been overlooked either. The GLC’s towing capacity reaches up to 2.4 tons, making it an ideal companion for hauling a trailer, boat or caravan with ease.

Inside, the premium atmosphere continues with the next-generation MBUX Hyperscreen and the new MB.OS operating system, merging digital intelligence with intuitive design for a truly connected driving experience.

The official world premiere is set for September 7 at the IAA motor show in Munich. Production is expected to begin in early 2026 at plants in Germany and China. With a starting price around $61,000 for the hybrid version and clear ambitions to expand its electric portfolio, Mercedes-Benz shows no sign of slowing down in its pursuit of the premium segment’s top spot.
