Leipzig factory builds its millionth Porsche Macan

The Leipzig plant celebrates one million Porsche Macan units, with a special electric Macan 4 delivered to a customer in Germany.
The Porsche plant in Leipzig has reached a major production milestone: the one-millionth Macan has officially left the assembly line. Since its debut in 2013, the compact SUV has become one of the brand’s top-performing models, and the plant itself has grown into a strategic hub for Porsche and the regional economy.
The anniversary vehicle is a Macan 4 in Frozen Blue Metallic, featuring a two-tone leather interior, panoramic roof, and augmented reality head-up display. It is powered by a 100 kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of up to 641 km and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. The car was handed over to its new owner, 62-year-old entrepreneur Stefan Schmidt from Kiel, at the Porsche Experience Center on site.
But Leipzig is more than just a production site. It represents Porsche’s commitment to flexibility and innovation. Since 2024, the factory has been producing vehicles with internal combustion, hybrid, and fully electric drivetrains — all on a single line. The shift to electric required investments of approximately €600 million and major infrastructure upgrades, including a new body shop.
The decision to manufacture the Macan in Leipzig was made back in 2011, when the site transitioned from an assembly facility to a full-scale factory. Today, around 5,000 employees work here. With its extensive infrastructure, the plant not only produces vehicles but also welcomes thousands of customers annually — over 2,000 vehicles are delivered directly on-site each year.
With the start of the fully electric Macan generation in 2024, the model has entered a new era. In the first half of 2025, about 60% of all Macan units delivered were electric. This figure speaks volumes about the growing importance of EVs within Porsche’s portfolio.
The Macan’s journey is one of transformation — from a model built on the Audi Q5 platform to a next-gen electric crossover. From a simple assembly hall to an intelligent, sustainable factory. And, clearly, the journey is just getting started.
