Kia has revealed its PBV electric van lineup, including PV1, PV5, and PV7, designed for flexible commercial and personal use. Learn about their modular features and market impact.

Kia has officially introduced its highly anticipated PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) lineup to the European market, showcasing a bold vision for the future of commercial mobility. The debut took place at the IAA trade show in Hanover in September 2024, where the automaker presented three electric van models — PV1, PV5, and PV7, each designed for different business and personal transport needs.

What sets Kia’s PBV lineup apart is its modular platform, built to cater to a diverse range of applications — from cargo delivery to passenger transport and even camper-style adaptations.

The PV5 is positioned as a mid-sized van, available in multiple configurations: a passenger version, a high-roof cargo model, and a chassis cab for custom modifications. Kia also offers flexible seating layouts, making the PV5 a versatile solution for businesses and private users alike.

The larger PV7 is designed for high-capacity cargo or passenger transport, while the compact PV1 was created with urban mobility and the growing last-mile delivery sector in mind.

The PBV lineup is expected to compete with Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz, but Kia is focusing on adaptability and functionality as key differentiators. According to the company, its new vans will offer best-in-class cargo volume, which could give them a competitive edge in the expanding electric commercial vehicle market.

When Will It Hit the Market? Kia plans to begin mass production of the PBV series in summer 2025, with Europe and South Korea as the initial launch markets. The automaker sees this lineup as a stepping stone toward future innovations in smart mobility, including the potential integration of advanced autonomous driving features and connected services.

Technical details, such as battery capacity, motor power, and driving range, remain undisclosed for now. However, what’s clear is that Kia is making a strong push into the commercial EV sector, where demand for innovative, cost-effective solutions is growing rapidly.
