Xiaomi SU7 Ultra: A New Challenger in the High-Performance EV Market

Xiaomi introduces the SU7 Ultra, an electric hypercar with 1,526 hp and a Nürburgring record. Learn about its specs, pricing, and global expansion plans.
Xiaomi is rapidly expanding beyond the realm of mobile technology. First unveiled in March 2024, the flagship electric vehicle Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has already captured the attention of automotive enthusiasts and industry experts. With an impressive combination of raw power, cutting-edge technology, and an aggressive pricing strategy, it aims to compete with the Tesla Model S Plaid and Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
From Concept to Reality: Xiaomi’s Entry into the EV Market
Xiaomi’s ambition to build an electric vehicle was first announced in 2021, when the company established Xiaomi Automobile. After years of development, it secured an official production permit in August 2023, and by December 2023, the first units of the SU7 were rolling off the production line.
Power and Speed: SU7 Ultra’s Technical Highlights
The biggest talking point of the SU7 Ultra is its three-motor powertrain, delivering a staggering 1,526 horsepower. This enables a 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 1.98 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h.
A 93.7 kWh CATL Qilin 2.0 battery powers the vehicle, offering a range of up to 620 km (under China’s CLTC cycle). Lightweight carbon fiber elements and an aerodynamic design help balance performance and efficiency.
Global Ambitions: Xiaomi’s Market Expansion Strategy
Initially, the SU7 Ultra was intended exclusively for the Chinese market, but Xiaomi is already preparing for its global debut at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona.
Although no official announcements about international sales have been made, reports suggest that Xiaomi is in talks with Hyperion Leasing, which could facilitate exports to other regions, including Russia.
Pricing Strategy: Xiaomi’s Competitive Edge
Another major advantage of the SU7 Ultra is its strategic pricing. Initially announced at 814,900 yuan (~$112,000), the actual launch price was significantly lower—529,900 yuan (~$73,000). This bold move underscores Xiaomi’s intent to aggressively capture market share and challenge more expensive Western alternatives.
Breaking Records and Gaining Recognition
The SU7 Ultra is already making headlines beyond its specifications. It set a Nürburgring lap record for four-door production cars, clocking an impressive 6 minutes 46.874 seconds. This achievement cements its status as one of the fastest electric vehicles in the world.
Additionally, industry figures, including Ford CEO Jim Farley, have praised Xiaomi’s EV push. Farley noted that Xiaomi is "very serious" about its automotive ambitions.
What’s Next?
The SU7 Ultra is not just another electric car—it’s a bold statement aimed at reshaping the high-performance EV landscape. Xiaomi is proving that it can compete at the highest level, not just in consumer electronics, but also in the automotive industry.
Now, the real question remains: can Xiaomi establish itself as a major player in the premium EV segment?
