CUPRA has announced the debut of its Raval electric urban EV on April 9. Explore key details, specs, and what the model means for the brand’s EV strategy.

On April 9, 2026, CUPRA will unveil the production version of the Raval—a model the brand openly describes as a turning point in its electric strategy. This is not just another EV launch, but the first entry in a broader urban electric car family within Volkswagen Group, already aligned with production and market rollout plans.

The Raval is a compact hatchback measuring just over four meters in length, built on the MEB+ platform. It will be offered with front-wheel drive and multiple power outputs ranging from 155 to 166 kW (210–226 hp). Two battery options are planned, with a preliminary range of up to 450 km in one version, although final figures will be confirmed after homologation. CUPRA places particular emphasis on driving character, with a lowered suspension, wider track, adaptive damping and dedicated sport modes designed to give the car a more engaging feel than most competitors in the segment.

This launch carries broader significance beyond a single model. The Raval will be the first vehicle in the Electric Urban Car Family, a project involving four models across three Volkswagen Group brands, all produced in Spain. Alongside CUPRA, future Volkswagen and Skoda models will share this foundation. Production infrastructure is already in place, with Martorell undergoing major upgrades, including new robotics and the start of battery system assembly. This positions the Raval as a key milestone not only for CUPRA, but for the group’s wider industrial strategy in Europe.

Preparation for mass production has entered its final phase. The plant is currently running Serie 0, validating manufacturing processes ahead of full-scale production. At the same time, CUPRA has begun serial assembly of battery systems and implemented an automated logistics link between battery production and vehicle assembly. These steps indicate that the model is nearing market readiness.

The car itself has already moved beyond concept status. Camouflaged pre-series prototypes have been tested on public roads, including exclusive drive events for selected partners. These tests highlighted the model’s intended positioning: a compact EV that combines everyday usability with a distinctly driver-focused character.

The project originated under the UrbanRebel name, with the final designation “Raval” referencing the Barcelona district of the same name—known for its dynamic and unconventional identity. This continues CUPRA’s approach of linking its models to the cultural and urban context of its home city.

Current indications suggest a starting price of around €25,950 in Germany, described as preliminary. Configuration is expected to open after the premiere, with vehicles scheduled to reach the road in summer 2026. That moment will ultimately determine how well CUPRA’s vision of an emotional urban EV resonates in the broader market.
