Lexus and Laufey unveil a one-off Blue In Green Edition RZ, inspired by Miles Davis’ jazz legacy and a new Amazon Music release. Discover the details.

Lexus has unveiled a one-of-a-kind electric vehicle that turns a jazz classic into a physical object — the Blue In Green Edition RZ was created as a visual and tactile interpretation of a Miles Davis composition marking its 100th anniversary.

The project operates across several layers at once, combining music, design and digital distribution. It is based on the fully electric Lexus RZ, a model that plays a role in the brand’s broader electrification strategy. In this case, however, the vehicle has been transformed into an art object — it is not intended for production and exists as a single, unique piece.

At the core of the concept is “Blue in Green,” a composition from the 1959 album Kind of Blue, one of the most influential and commercially successful records in jazz history. The piece is widely regarded as a standard, known for its restrained and atmospheric character — qualities that the designers sought to translate into form and materials.

The exterior features a shifting finish that moves from deep blue to green depending on the light, directly reflecting the mood of the composition. Inside, brass accents reference Miles Davis’s trumpet, while velvet and aged leather evoke the look of traditional instrument cases. Even interaction with the car carries a musical element: when started, it plays the opening notes of the original track.

Artist Laufey plays a central role in the project, having recorded a new version of “Blue in Green” with added lyrics. The track has been released as an Amazon Music Original and is available exclusively on the platform. The vehicle itself acts as a physical extension of this reinterpretation, linking sound and design into a single concept.

The reveal took place during the 100 Miles event, streamed globally on Twitch as part of the official centennial celebrations of Miles Davis. These initiatives are led by the Miles Davis Estate and Reservoir, which manages significant parts of his catalog and legacy.

The format of the project reflects a broader shift in how automakers communicate their vision. Rather than focusing solely on the product, Lexus integrates cultural elements — music, streaming platforms and live performance — to present its electrified lineup. In this context, the car becomes part of a larger narrative where technology, art and media converge.
