Opel reports 39% growth in Germany in Q1 2026, driven by Corsa, SUVs and rising EV share. See key figures, market trends and what supports this growth.

Opel opened 2026 with a sharp surge: around 33,600 new passenger cars were registered in Germany in the first quarter, a 39% increase compared to the same period last year. The brand’s market share rose to 4.8%, reaching 4.7% in March and confirming sustained momentum.

March stands out in particular: 13,700 registrations and a 43% year-on-year increase. This pace sets Opel apart in a market that has shown more restrained dynamics overall, with registrations declining in January before returning to moderate growth in February.

Established models played a central role. The Opel Corsa, which has remained Germany’s best-selling small car for more than five consecutive years, continued to strengthen its position, with registrations rising by another 25%. The model remains one of the brand’s core products, with over 14.6 million units sold globally and more than 43,000 new registrations in Germany in 2024 alone.

SUVs have also been a key driver. The Mokka, Grandland and the recently introduced Frontera all recorded double-digit growth. This aligns with broader market trends, where SUVs account for more than one-third of all registrations in Germany and remain the largest segment. In this context, Opel’s focus on expanding and updating its crossover lineup appears well-timed.

Electrification is another major factor. According to internal figures, nearly 21% of new Opel registrations in Germany in the first quarter were fully electric vehicles. The brand’s share of the BEV market increased to 4.3%. The current lineup includes models such as the Mokka Electric, Astra Electric, Grandland Electric and Frontera Electric, covering a wide range of segments, from more accessible family-oriented options to models offering up to 694 km of WLTP range.

The strong start to 2026 continues a trend that began in 2025, which Opel itself described as a transitional year marked by several important model launches. The impact of those launches is now becoming visible in registration figures. Additional momentum is expected from the new Opel Astra, which has already reached showrooms.

As a result, Opel is strengthening its position in its home market, where competition remains intense and demand is rapidly shifting toward electric vehicles and SUVs. The current figures indicate that the brand’s updated product strategy is already delivering measurable results in the early months of the year.
