Volvo Car USA Recalls 1,584 EX30 Electric Crossovers
Volvo Car USA recalls 1,584 EX30 electric crossovers from 2025–2026 over a seatbelt warning chime issue tied to FMVSS No. 208. See which vehicles are affected and how repairs will be handled.
Volvo Car USA has announced a recall of 1,584 Volvo EX30 electric crossovers from the 2025–2026 model years. The campaign was triggered by a potential malfunction in the audible seatbelt reminder system, which results in non-compliance with the U.S. safety standard FMVSS No. 208 “Occupant Crash Protection”.
The recall covers 970 Volvo EX30 vehicles from the 2025–2026 model years as well as 614 units of the 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country. All affected vehicles are equipped with the Premium Sound audio system and were manufactured between August and November 2025.
The issue is linked to a deviation in a supplier’s manufacturing process. According to documentation, this may lead to unstable contact within the audio module, which could prevent the cabin from producing the audible alert that warns a driver or passenger when a seatbelt is not fastened.
Under normal conditions, Volvo’s seatbelt reminder system monitors seat occupancy and belt status. If a seatbelt is not fastened, the vehicle displays a warning on the screen and accompanies it with an audible signal. It is this sound component that may operate incorrectly in certain vehicles.
The non-compliance concerns the U.S. federal safety standard FMVSS No. 208, which regulates occupant protection systems and requires both visual and audible warnings for unfastened seatbelts.
The investigation into the issue began in October 2025 following initial reports. In January 2026 the case was escalated to the Critical Concern Action Process (CCAP), Volvo’s internal procedure for evaluating potential safety risks. The company made the final decision to initiate the recall on March 4, 2026.
At the time the recall was announced, 11 warranty claims and two field reports related to the defect had been registered in the United States.
To correct the problem, Volvo dealers will replace damaged terminals in the audio module connector. All repairs will be carried out free of charge for owners.
Dealers received notification about the campaign on March 11, 2026, while affected owners are expected to receive official letters by April 3, 2026. VIN lookup for the recall became available on March 13.
The EX30 is Volvo’s most compact electric crossover and one of the key models in the company’s expanding electric lineup. Even though the recall is relatively small, it involves a mandatory safety warning system, which is why a formal recall campaign was required.
