Audi A6 Sedan Launches with Class-Leading Drag Coefficient
Audi introduces the new A6 Sedan with a record 0.23 drag coefficient, improved noise insulation, advanced driver assistance, and hybrid options, starting at €55,500.
Audi has officially launched the new A6 Sedan, focusing on record-setting aerodynamics and improved driving comfort. Equipped with a 150 kW TFSI engine, the model consumes between 6.9 and 7.8 liters per 100 km and emits 157–178 g of CO₂ per kilometer, placing it within the G–F CO₂ classes. However, the standout achievement is its drag coefficient of 0.23—the best figure in Audi’s history for a combustion-powered model.
Engineers and designers worked closely together from digital simulations to wind tunnel testing to achieve this level of efficiency. The redesigned Singleframe grille with active shutters, optimized air intakes, and improved air curtains help guide airflow smoothly around the wheels and along the body, minimizing drag.
The rear design plays a crucial role, featuring an integrated lip on the tailgate and a wide diffuser that reduce wake turbulence. Additional underbody panels, newly designed seals, and optimized cooling flaps improved airflow management by up to 70% compared to the previous model. Optional adaptive air suspension lowers the car by 20 millimeters in normal driving modes and further at higher speeds, enhancing stability and reducing resistance.
Audi has also worked on noise reduction in parallel with aerodynamic improvements. Wind noise inside the cabin has been cut by up to 30% through tighter door seals and optional acoustic glazing, now available even for the rear windows. Tires from 19 inches upward include noise-absorbing inserts, while redesigned engine and transmission mounts, along with optimized gear teeth, ensure a smoother and quieter ride.
The new A6 comes with an extensive suite of driver assistance systems, including Audi Pre Sense, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, a 360-degree camera, and up to 24 sensors with a laser scanner. These systems improve active safety and prepare the platform for future semi-autonomous driving capabilities.
Built in Neckarsulm, the A6 Sedan starts at €55,500. The lineup also includes diesel and plug-in hybrid variants. Audi plans to introduce up to 10 new PHEV models in the coming months, offering electric-only ranges of up to 106 km. Looking ahead, fully electric A6 e-tron models will join the lineup, marking a further step toward Audi’s electrified future.
