The model was unveiled at Auto China 2026 in Beijing and became the second production vehicle of the new AUDI brand, developed in partnership with China’s SAIC. Unlike Audi’s global lineup, this brand is designed exclusively for China and tailored to local digital habits and expectations.

The E7X enters the large premium electric SUV segment, where Chinese manufacturers currently dominate. Industry data shows that domestic brands account for a significant share of sales in the high-end EV segment, with demand shifting toward spacious family vehicles equipped with advanced digital features. Against this backdrop, Audi is combining its engineering expertise with China’s digital ecosystem.

The vehicle is built on the new Advanced Digitized Platform, co-developed by Audi and SAIC. It features a zonal electronic architecture, supports full over-the-air updates, and integrates deeply with China’s digital services, enabling faster feature deployment and localized functionality.

The E7X is offered with two electric powertrains: a 300 kW rear-wheel-drive version and a 500 kW quattro variant capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Battery capacities of up to 109 kWh deliver a range of more than 750 kilometers under the CLTC cycle, which typically reports higher figures than the European WLTP standard. Thanks to its 900-volt architecture, fast charging can restore the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 13 minutes.

Driver assistance is handled by the lidar-based AUDI 360 Driving Assist system, developed with Chinese company Momenta. It is specifically adapted to China’s complex traffic conditions and supports both highway and urban driving with longitudinal and lateral control.

Inside, the E7X focuses on comfort and digital experience. In the four-seat configuration, rear passengers can recline into zero-gravity seats with up to a 120-degree angle, supported by massage and pneumatic adjustment systems. A 21.4-inch rear display transforms the cabin into a multimedia space, complemented by a Bose sound system with immersive audio and a 27-inch panoramic front display.

At the center of the interface is the AI-powered AUDI Assistant 2.0, developed with ByteDance. It manages vehicle functions, answers questions, and engages in conversation, adjusting its tone depending on the driving context.

The E7X will be produced in Shanghai and is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2026. The AUDI brand plans to expand its lineup further, with an all-electric sedan expected as early as 2027.

The introduction of the E7X highlights Audi’s shift in strategy for China. Instead of adapting global models, the company is creating dedicated vehicles and even a separate brand tailored to local expectations. In a market where competition is increasingly defined by digital ecosystems as much as performance, this approach reflects a significant transformation in how premium automakers operate in China.
