Jeep begins production of the new Compass at Stellantis Melfi in Italy, featuring hybrid and electric versions on the STLA Medium platform with up to 650 km range.

Jeep has officially begun production of the new-generation Compass at the Stellantis Melfi plant in Italy, marking a pivotal shift toward full electrification and flexible manufacturing. For the facility, which has been operating for more than 30 years, this project represents a transition from traditional assembly to a new era of sustainable automotive production.

Built on the STLA Medium platform, the new Compass showcases Stellantis’ latest technology — a modular structure that supports multiple electrified powertrains. The lineup includes hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric variants. The EV version offers up to 650 km of range and up to 375 hp, though Jeep has not yet disclosed the exact battery capacity or charging figures.

The launch in Melfi goes beyond a manufacturing milestone. The plant is becoming a core hub in Stellantis’ electrification roadmap, set to host additional models such as the Lancia Gamma and DS vehicles from 2026 onward. Having first produced Jeep models in Europe in 2014, Melfi now demonstrates true “freedom of production” with the ability to shift entirely to BEV output in response to market demand.

Technological innovations define the site’s transformation. The energy-efficient 4-Wet paint process and ABB’s PixelPaint system, introduced for dual-tone body finishes, underline Melfi’s role as a testing ground for advanced and sustainable manufacturing. The facility also aims to meet a significant share of its energy needs through renewable sources in the coming years.

According to Reuters and the German outlet WELT, European sales of the new Compass will begin by late 2025, with first deliveries expected in November. Estimated prices stand around €40,000 for the hybrid and €48,000 for the fully electric version.

Visually, the Compass retains Jeep’s recognizable DNA but has grown in size and sophistication. With more than 200 mm of ground clearance and improved approach and departure angles, it remains confident off the road. Marketed in 60 countries, the new Compass is positioned to strengthen Jeep’s presence in the competitive C-SUV segment.
