Opel Mokka GSE Recognized with the 2025 Golden Steering Wheel
Opel Mokka GSE earns the 2025 Golden Steering Wheel for Best Small Car, as reported by AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG. Read the full story and details.
Opel has once again captured the attention of the automotive world, as the new Mokka GSE has earned the 2025 Golden Steering Wheel award in the “Best Small Car” category. The model not only follows in the footsteps of last year’s winner, the Opel Grandland, but also raises the bar by becoming the fastest all-electric production vehicle in the brand’s lineup.
At the center of the story is a blend of performance and electric power. The Mokka GSE is equipped with a 207 kW (281 hp) motor delivering 345 Nm of torque. This output enables the crossover to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 200 km/h. These figures are more than numbers on a spec sheet — they reflect engineering directly inspired by the rally-developed Mokka GSE Rally prototype.
The 54 kWh battery provides a WLTP range of up to 336 kilometers, while fast charging at up to 100 kW allows the battery to go from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 26 minutes. For everyday use, the model promises solid versatility, although real-world range data remains limited. German outlets note that typical driving may result in a range closer to around 260 kilometers.
Design is another essential part of the package. The Mokka GSE stands out with GSE-specific elements such as 20-inch wheels, bright yellow front brake calipers, Alcantara performance seats, and a redesigned steering wheel with flattened top and bottom sections. These touches create a car that clearly embraces its rally-inspired personality.
The AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG jury praised not only the vehicle’s performance and visual appeal but also its driving character. The Mokka GSE outscored its rivals by a substantial margin, securing a dominant win.
Sales have already begun in several European markets, including Germany, the Netherlands, France, and the United Kingdom, where initial pricing has been published. Production takes place at the Stellantis plant in Poissy, enabling Opel to bring the model to customers efficiently.
With this achievement, the Mokka GSE becomes the 22nd Opel model to receive the prestigious Golden Steering Wheel award. Judging by the reaction from the press and enthusiasts, it may strengthen Opel’s position in the expanding segment of compact electric crossovers — especially among drivers seeking a combination of performance, expressive design, and a dynamic road presence.
